This is still being symbolized by the city’s landmark, the Arch, as the “Gateway to the West.” At the beginning of the 20 th century St. Louis became internationally well known In the early history of America, St. Louis, Missouri was the starting point for the colonization of the “Wild West” because of its locatibecause of the World Exposition and as the first English-speaking venue for the Olympic Games. Numerous houses and buildings in the city <strong>com</strong>memorate this era. IN ST. LOUIS – MUSIC HISTORY FIRST HAND Together with New Orleans and Memphis, St. Louis also gained a reputation in the world as “America’s Music Corridor”. Who doesn’t know the “St. Louis Blues” by Scott Joplin? No matter if it is blues, ragtime, jazz, classic or rap? St. Louis makes it possible to experience music history first hand.
