International Yudeung Festival of<br />
Namgang<br />
It is designated as the best festival of Korea<br />
by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.<br />

lighting during the festival originated from<br />
the ancient military tactic of obstructing the<br />
crossing of the Namgang River by foreign<br />
invaders and was also used as a way of sending<br />
well wishes to the family members in<br />

Jinjuseong Castle and Chokseongnu<br />

It‘s a castle built on a cliff beside Namgang<br />
River and a place known for one of the three<br />
great victories During the Japanese Invasion<br />
in 1592. About 70,000 soldiers and civilians<br />
died trying to defend the castle during the<br />
battle. The famous Nongae also died out of<br />
loyalty to her country by throwing herself into<br />
the Namgang River while holding a Japanese<br />
general tightly in her arms. Chokseongnu Pavilion<br />
is one of the three representative pavilions<br />
in Korea, located on the top of Jinjuseong<br />
Castle.<br />
The Gaecheon Art Festival is the first of all<br />
local cultural festivals in Korea. It is held<br />
annually to <strong>com</strong>memorate the victory of Jinjuseong<br />
Battle and hand down the spirit of<br />
Dangun, the legendary founder of the country.<br />
The festival began in 1949 with the name<br />
of ‚Yeongnam Art Festival‘ and still continues<br />
its long history.<br />
Traditional Bullfighting Festival<br />
Jinju Bullfighting is considered to have been<br />
maintained the original form of Korean traditional<br />
bullfighting which has lasted for a long<br />
time. A variety of different facilities including<br />
Jinju Land, recreation and observation deck,<br />
drive-in theater and inline-staking rink is established<br />
around the Bullfighting Arena which<br />
has been newly constructed in Jinyangho<br />
Lake Park.<br />

Also called "Chil-bo-hwa-ban (flower rice in<br />
seven colors)" for its colorful <strong>com</strong>bination of<br />
5 different colored vegetables, white rice and<br />
bronze bowl, it is a delicious and nutritious<br />
dish of Jinju‘s tradition.<br />
Jinju Eel<br />
Jinju Eel has a mild taste and does not smell<br />
fishy. It is one of Jinju‘s traditional dishes with<br />
full of nutrients.<br />
