창축제인 월드콰이어챔피언십 코리
아 2009는 이렇게 수많은 한국의
전통미를 담고 있는 북을 치며 시
작한다. 북보다 더 원초적인 그리
고 가장 근사한 악기인 사람의 목
소리로 인류를 노래하고 이를 통
해 하나되는 세계를 외치는 이 행
사의 취지에 걸맞게 한국의 아름
다움과 철학이 배어있는 한국전통
의 북을 울리며 이 대회를 시작하
고 행사시작의 신호음으로서, 전통
적 무구로서의 행사의 안녕과 번성
을 기원하고, 세계민족과 커뮤니케
이션하는 통신수단으로서의 상징성
과 이축제의 표상으로서 북을 치며
행사를 시작하기 위해 타북식이 마
련되었다.
Drum is a percussion instrument of most
frequent uses over the world which plays the
basic rhythm of music. In its early days, it
wasn‘t used as a musical instrument but as a
signal with the sound of which resembles of
heart beats in human body.
Drum beats are responded by the pulse and
heart beats of a human body, making it sim-
ply possible to move feelings and emotion of
people. Drum has a long history since its first
founding of historical record dated back to
3,000 B.C. as a form of carving on ancient
stone piece; at the same time, drums are
found anywhere in the world and is one of the
most common instruments. Though its wide
spread throughout the world, its historical values
are extraordinary, existing as the oldest
instrument which has dissolved into human
life from the far-away past and would also
continue its importance in the future.
No one cannot exactly tell when the origin
of Korean drum had started, but we can find
its first appearance in a traditional love story
between Prince Ho-dong and Princess Nakrang,
who are believed to had lived in the
first century A.D.. Thus, Korean drum has the
image of long tradition and mythical beauty;
however, the first official appearance is found
in the record from Bu-yeo Dynasty, which had
resided in the Korean peninsula about 2,000
years ago, with using the name of ‚Young-go‘.
Since then, Korean drums have developed
their roles that vary from ‚wartime signal‘ and
‚religious instrument‘ to ‚means of communication‘
and ‚festivity device‘ and all of these
mingle together to form a symbol of Korean
formative arts. Garnished with Obang colors,
meaning five colors of which representing the
five elements in nature, and Dan-cheong patterns,
which gives the feeling of elegance and
magnificence to viewers.
World Choir Championships Korea 2009, the
choir festival in which hundreds of choirs from
all over the world gather and sing in peaceful
harmony, announces its grand opening with
the beating sound of Korean drum filled with
a diverse beauty of Korean tradition. Beating
a Korean drum in this event is expected to
serve its beauty and philosophy by delivering
the meaning of communication with people
worldwide and blessing the prosperity of the
event in which people ‚sing together and
bring nations together‘ with human voice, the
most basic and beautiful instrument existing
in the earth.
