전통미를 담고 있는 북을 치며 시<br />

작한다. 북보다 더 원초적인 그리<br />

고 가장 근사한 악기인 사람의 목<br />

소리로 인류를 노래하고 이를 통<br />

해 하나되는 세계를 외치는 이 행<br />

사의 취지에 걸맞게 한국의 아름<br />

다움과 철학이 배어있는 한국전통<br />

의 북을 울리며 이 대회를 시작하<br />

고 행사시작의 신호음으로서, 전통<br />

적 무구로서의 행사의 안녕과 번성<br />

을 기원하고, 세계민족과 커뮤니케<br />

이션하는 통신수단으로서의 상징성<br />

과 이축제의 표상으로서 북을 치며<br />

행사를 시작하기 위해 타북식이 마<br />

련되었다.<br />

Drum is a percussion instrument of most<br />

frequent uses over the world which plays the<br />

basic rhythm of music. In its early days, it<br />

wasn‘t used as a musical instrument but as a<br />

signal with the sound of which resembles of<br />

heart beats in human body.<br />

Drum beats are responded by the pulse and<br />

heart beats of a human body, making it sim-<br />

ply possible to move feelings and emotion of<br />

people. Drum has a long history since its first<br />

founding of historical record dated back to<br />

3,000 B.C. as a form of carving on ancient<br />

stone piece; at the same time, drums are<br />

found anywhere in the world and is one of the<br />

most <strong>com</strong>mon instruments. Though its wide<br />

spread throughout the world, its historical values<br />

are extraordinary, existing as the oldest<br />

instrument which has dissolved into human<br />

life from the far-away past and would also<br />

continue its importance in the future.<br />

No one cannot exactly tell when the origin<br />

of Korean drum had started, but we can find<br />

its first appearance in a traditional love story<br />

between Prince Ho-dong and Princess Nakrang,<br />

who are believed to had lived in the<br />

first century A.D.. Thus, Korean drum has the<br />

image of long tradition and mythical beauty;<br />

however, the first official appearance is found<br />

in the record from Bu-yeo Dynasty, which had<br />

resided in the Korean peninsula about 2,000<br />

years ago, with using the name of ‚Young-go‘.<br />

Since then, Korean drums have developed<br />

their roles that vary from ‚wartime signal‘ and<br />

‚religious instrument‘ to ‚means of <strong>com</strong>munication‘<br />

and ‚festivity device‘ and all of these<br />

mingle together to form a symbol of Korean<br />

formative arts. Garnished with Obang colors,<br />

meaning five colors of which representing the<br />

five elements in nature, and Dan-cheong patterns,<br />

which gives the feeling of elegance and<br />

magnificence to viewers.<br />

World Choir Championships Korea <strong>2009</strong>, the<br />

choir festival in which hundreds of choirs from<br />

all over the world gather and sing in peaceful<br />

harmony, announces its grand opening with<br />

the beating sound of Korean drum filled with<br />

a diverse beauty of Korean tradition. Beating<br />

a Korean drum in this event is expected to<br />

serve its beauty and philosophy by delivering<br />

the meaning of <strong>com</strong>munication with people<br />

worldwide and blessing the prosperity of the<br />

event in which people ‚sing together and<br />

bring nations together‘ with human voice, the<br />

most basic and beautiful instrument existing<br />

in the earth.<br />
