I would like to heartily express my congratulation
on holding World Choir Championship
Korea 2009, a grand music festival which
brings the nations together, in the beautiful
province of Gyeongnam, a region known for
its picturesque landscape.
I’m very pleased that Gimhae is chosen one
of the hosting cities for this global event in
which musicians from every region gather and
celebrate, bringing our city a great opportunity
to let the world recognize the remarkable
traces from the Iron Age still remaining within
the city and its long history as the capital of
ancient Korean dynasty Gaya.
On behalf of 500,000 citizens of Gimhae, I
sincerely welcome all people to the city of
Gaya culture. Our city was a capital of Gaya
Dynasty with the lasting bloom of culture for
2,000 years and we would like to kindly offer
for you to enjoy the ancient culture that we
have preserved and taken care of.
Choral singing is a form of fascinating art
which makes people open their minds to each
other and harmonizes the world in peace, regardless
of the difference in languages and
races. I hope to see in this event full of warm
friendships toward each other which would
let people become one.
We’re very fortunate to have such a worldwide
choir festival transcending nationality
and ideology in our city and to feel closely
touched with the depth of high standard of
music. We’re happily expecting our artistic
standard would develop to a different level.
This event will be a precious gift to the citizens
of Gimhae, who have been in eager for
so long to celebrate a festival with full of joy
and romance within beautiful melody.
Lastly, I thank all the choirs and visitors participating
in the event as well as all of those
who have invested every effort for organizing
the event. I wish happiness and excitement
be with all of you.
