I‘m very fortunate and pleased to be with all<br />
of you here in the province of Gyeongnam,<br />
South Korea.<br />
You can see the traces of Gyeongnam‘s old<br />
history and tradition still vividly residing all<br />
over the province, as well as its beautiful<br />
scenery created from the perfect harmony of<br />
mountains, fields and seas, making it much<br />
more meaningful that World Choir Championships<br />
Korea <strong>2009</strong> is taking place here.<br />
Choral singing is a form of music that is created<br />
when people gather in one place. This<br />
requires temperance and harmony more than<br />
anything, so each one in a singing group has<br />
to control him or herself and should know<br />
how to mingle with the others to harmonize<br />
different voices together.<br />
This spirit of choral singing is what we are<br />
desperately in the need for living today. We<br />
can create and send a message of hope,<br />
telling those depressed over the international<br />
economy crisis that hardships should be<br />
over<strong>com</strong>e if they cooperate.<br />
As you know, the Korean peninsula is the<br />
only region in the world that people who<br />
<strong>com</strong>e from the same blood are separated into<br />
two territories due to the ideological discord.<br />
Through this event, I hope we can prove the<br />
world that we seek for peace within everyone,<br />
regardless of their nationality and ideology.<br />
Also during your stay, I hope you will experience<br />
the distinguished cultures of four hosting<br />
cities, Changwon, Masan, jinju and Gimhae<br />
as well as build a deep friendship toward<br />
each other through friendly <strong>com</strong>munication.<br />
May your trip be sound and <strong>com</strong>fortable, and<br />
happiness be filled in your heart on your way<br />

from all over the world <strong>com</strong>pete against<br />
each other with their highest ability; but at<br />
the same time, let the spirit of choral singing<br />
grow among us, so that we understand each<br />
other and share our thoughts rather than<br />
<strong>com</strong>peting over high ranking.<br />
