Changwon, located at the southeastern tip of<br />

Korean peninsula, is the first planned city of<br />

Korea harmonious with nature and technology<br />

to open the future of Korea in the 21 th<br />

century, and has a population of approximately<br />

510,000. Changwon, provincial capital<br />

of Gyeongnam, is aiming for a dynamic city<br />

with harmony of industry and environment,<br />

and also heading toward an environmental<br />

capital of Korea by hosting Ramsar COP10<br />

in 2008. It is famous for Ju-nam reservoir,<br />

the largest arrival region of migratory birds<br />

in the East. Also, Changwon is a hub of many<br />

major global <strong>com</strong>panies including Samsung,<br />

GM-Daewoo and LG Electronics etc. Recently,<br />

various festivals of culture and arts such<br />

as "Changwon World Parade" are lively being<br />

held.<br />

CECO (Changwon Exhibition Convention<br />

Center)<br />

Designed of a turbine engine which shows<br />

that Changwon is the mecca of Korea‘s machinery<br />

industry and a promising planned<br />

city, CECO is a world class exhibition center<br />

provided with the equipment made by the<br />

latest technology, including simultaneous<br />

translation system and satellite system.<br />

Yongji Lake<br />

Located at the center of downtown in Changwon,<br />

it is considered a cultural area in the<br />

heart of the city, holding many cultural and<br />

artistic performances with various sights. A<br />

musical fountain is set up at the lake and<br />

presents a fantastic musical show made by<br />

latest technology, producing stream of water<br />

with music sounding, screen in water and<br />

laser show. It is newly gaining reputation as<br />

one of Changwon‘s landmark.<br />

Sungsan Art Hall<br />

Sungsan Art Hall was constructed on the<br />

purpose of developing Changwon‘s reputation<br />

as a cultural city as well as its already<br />

renowned reputation as the industrial city. It<br />

contains a grand theater, small theaters, exhibition<br />

hall, a sculpture park and so on. The<br />

Grand Theater, in particular, is approved of its<br />

capability to hold large scale performances<br />

such as operas and musicals because it has<br />

seats for 1,720 audience and is possible to<br />

change the formation of the stage.<br />

House of Changwon<br />

It was built in Hanok type, a traditional Korean<br />

house in which traditional farming utensils<br />

are preserved well and is served as an<br />

important historical research to learn about<br />

traditional lifestyle. Built on a 10,209m2 lot, the<br />

house contains 14 buildings and is open free<br />

to the public for the use of holding traditional<br />

Korean wedding, thus many people are taking<br />

advantage of the place.<br />
