Gyeongnam goes out to the world<br />
경상남도는 한반도의 동남쪽에 위<br />
치하고 있으며 지리산국립공원과<br />
한려해상국립공원을 주축으로 산과<br />
들과 바다가 함께 어우러진 수려한<br />
자연경관과 고대 가야문화 발상지<br />
를 비롯하여 지역마다 특색있고 훌<br />
륭한 향토문화를 꽃피우고 있다.<br />
이러한 자연․문화적 환경 아래서<br />
태고의 신비를 간직한 우포늪과 한<br />
국 불교 3보 사찰로 손꼽히는 「합<br />
천 해인사」와 「양산 통도사」등<br />
많은 문화유적이 곳곳에 산재해 있<br />
고, 국내․외적으로 훌륭한 문화예<br />
술인들이 많이 태어났으며 특히,<br />
음악가「윤이상」과 조각가「문<br />
신」은 세계적으로 명성을 떨쳤다<br />
그리고 임해지역의 3개 국가공업<br />
단지를 중심으로 발달한 기계산업<br />
은 한국 경제발전에 큰 동력으<br />
로 작용하고 있으며, 특히 대우․삼<br />
성․STX․성동조선은 세계적인 선박<br />
건조기업으로 성장하고 있다.<br />
경남도는 21세기에도 지속가능한<br />
성장동력을 갖추고 자연과 인간이<br />
함께 공존하는 도시를 만들어가기<br />
위해 2008년 11월 「람사르 총회」<br />
개최와 습지 보호 등 환경보전정책<br />
을 강화하고 있으며 「월드콰이어<br />
챔피언십 코리아 <strong>2009</strong>」등 세계적<br />
인 문화예술행사를 개최하여 세계<br />
속의 경남으로 그 위상을 높여나가<br />
고 있다.<br />
지리산국립공원<br />
지리산은 금강산, 한라산과 더불<br />
어 삼신산의 하나로 알려져 있으<br />
며, 신라 5악중 남악으로 어리석<br />
은 사람이 머물면 지혜로운 사람으<br />
로 달라진다 해서 지리산이라 불리<br />
워 진다.<br />
천왕봉에서 발원되어 흐르는 물로<br />
계곡을 형성하고 있는 칠선계곡을<br />
비롯하여 뱀사골 계곡, 대원사 계<br />
곡 등 수많은 계곡과 불일폭포, 구<br />
룡폭포, 용추폭포 등 뛰어난 자연<br />
경관은 명산으로서 전혀 손색이 없<br />
다.<br />
한려해상국립공원<br />
한려해상국립공원은 거제도에서부<br />
터 여수 오동도에 걸쳐 있으며, 여<br />
기서 한려는 한산도와 여수의 첫글<br />
자를 따서 부른 것으로 우리가 익<br />
히 들었던 여수 오동도, 남해 금<br />
산, 거제 해금강, 통영 한산도등<br />
이 한려해상국립공원에 속해 절경<br />
을 이루고 있다. 주변 해안도로를<br />
따라 펼쳐진 헤아릴 수 없는 자연<br />
경관과 자연자원들로 겨울엔 동백<br />
꽃으로 가로수를 만들고, 여름엔<br />
푸른 바다가 조화를 이루고 있다<br />
Gyeongnam, located in southeastern part of<br />
Korean peninsula, has beautiful scenery harmonious<br />
with mountains and fields and seas<br />
including Mt. Jiri National Park and Hallyeo<br />
National Marine park. It is famous for distinctive<br />
and outstanding regional culture such as<br />
the seat of ancient Kaya culture.<br />
It has Upo wetland which bears the mystery<br />
of ancient times and numerous cultural remains<br />
such as Haeinsa temple in Hapcheon<br />
and Tongdosa temple in Yangsan, two of the<br />
largest temples in Korea. Also, many great<br />
artists were born in Gyeongnam, especially<br />
internationally renowned musician Isang Yun<br />
and sculptor Munshin.<br />
Furthermore, machine industry, mainly developed<br />
in three national industrial <strong>com</strong>plex at<br />
littoral districts, is the power of Korean economy.<br />
Especially, major <strong>com</strong>panies including<br />
Daewoo, Samsung, STX and Sungdong shipbuilding<br />
<strong>com</strong>panies are growing as global <strong>com</strong>panies.<br />
Gyeongnam hosted Ramsar COP10 in<br />
November, 2008 and is also reinforcing environmental<br />
preservation policy such as wetland<br />
conservation etc. to make harmonious city of<br />
