Major Projects
Public Works Weatherization Project:
This repair and renovation project was completed in February 2008 and the building was
reoccupied on March 1 st . Numerous original structural and construction deficiencies were
discovered and corrected under contract amendment during this project and the building is now
ready to serve the county for the long term. The project was completed within the budget and
on time by the local Kitsap County firms of Fischer General Contracting, Inc. and Rice Fergus
Miller Architecture and Planning.
The contract award amount for Fischer General Contracting was $2,554,250 and amended to a
final construction cost of $2,725,656.
Coroner Facility:
The Coroner’s current facility is divided with the morgue located in the basement of an old
house and the administrative offices located in a county-owned building south of the current
Port Orchard campus. The current morgue is clearly substandard and poorly equipped to handle
any event of significant proportions. In order to serve the needs of the County now and into the
future, the County will construct a modern facility located on the Readiness Center campus in
Bremerton. This will locate the facility next to the new Central Communications building which is
centrally located within the County. The building is designed by Rice Fergus Miller Architects in
Bremerton. The project is to be accomplished under a tight budget and has been valueengineered
to appropriate minimum levels. The design was complete in spring of 2007 and
construction should be underway in early 2008. The current budget for this project is $3.8
million.
Courthouse Renovation:
The current scope of work for the existing Courthouse is to renovate the interior of the building
in order to render it functional for the short term, while the County developments a long term
plan for a permanent Law and Justice facility.
Other Capital Projects:
• Model Toxic Control Act Fund established to account for financing for landfill closures
on Bainbridge Island, the Norseland mobile home park and Hansville as required by the
State of Washington Model Toxic Control Act.
• Juvenile Services Facility Fund established to account for the construction of a new and
expanded Juvenile Services Facility.
• 1998 LTGO Bond Project Fund established to account for technology projects.
• 1999 LTGO Bond Project Fund established to account for acquisition of open space
land.
