Sheriff
Purpose:
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office working in cooperation with our diversified community, provide quality
law enforcement services, focusing on preserving and promoting safety for all of our citizens.
Our Sheriff’s Office has the following primary functions:
• Efficient and effective enforcement of laws/ordinances countywide
• Efficient and safe management of a regional correctional facility
• Effective fulfillment of all civil duties as mandated by law
• Safeguarding of life, property, and maintenance of order in the event of natural or manmade
critical incidents
• Managing the accessibility, dissemination and security of police records
• Provision of resources to citizens to facilitate the prevention of crime
• Interdiction of illicit activities throughout our County
• Homeland Security Regional Partner

o ADAT Program in place (2 Dodge Chargers)
• Traffic Safety Grant to obtain flashing school zone lights in all elementary school zones in Kitsap
County ($153,000)
• Purchased total station ($30,000)
• Purchased K9 tracking dog
• Enforcement
o Overall agency enforcement is up 38% from 2006. 2006 was 16% increase from 2005
• 2007 – 20,000 infractions
o DUI arrests doubled in last three years (413)
• 99% reports validated on the same day received
• 1998 reports purged, 1999 and 2000 reports being prepared for destruction
• Finished first phase of office reconstruction
o Civil Unit moved to new space
• New filing procedure for criminal master jail jacket folders
• FBI/CJIS Audit requirements met
• Support Staff In-Service Training
o CPR certification
• County Ordinance increasing Civil fees (increase $35,000/year)
