Coroner
Purpose:
Provide Medicolegal death investigation services for all deaths that occur within Kitsap County.
• Assist grieving family members and friends in coping with their loss.
• Perform autopsies and comprehensive medical investigations when necessary.
• Provide training and preventive education to other agencies and the public.
2007 Accomplishments:
• Received funding and had plans drawn up for a new Coroner’s Office/ Morgue to be built at
the Kitsap County Readiness Center in 2008.
• Investigated a record number of deaths in Kitsap County (nearly 1900).
• Participated in several High School Mock Crashes in Kitsap County.
• Spoke to several groups such as the U.S. Navy, High School classes and civic organizations
about how to prevent premature death.
2008 Goals and objectives:
• Construction of the new Coroner’s Office/Morgue at the Kitsap County Readiness Center which
will promote Effective and Efficient County Services.
• We will promote Safe and Healthy Communities by continuing to present talks to the military
and public on how to prevent premature death.
• We will promote Inclusive Government and Safe and Healthy Communities by providing
support to families when death has occurred to their loved one.
• We will promote Safe and Healthy Communities and Effective and Efficient County Services
by providing state of the art death investigation by keeping up with current training of all coroner
personnel.
