Chapter 5 Water Infrastructure
Infrastructure
Storage Facility
standpipe
reservoir
elevated tank
Description
An aboveground, supported pipe with a height that is generally greater than the
diameter. Used where additional height is needed to provide additional pressure
without pumping.
Tank that is at or below ground level with a diameter or footprint that is
typically greater than the height. Reservoirs are usually large in size and storage
capacity. SPU is currently covering all open reservoirs or will be removing them
from service.
Elevated tanks have a supporting structure that elevates the lower operating
elevation of water in the tank to a level above ground elevation.
Typical layout of SPU water system infrastructure is shown on Figure 5-2.
