Secondary transfer and the London co-ordinated admissions procedure Completing an online or paper Common Application Form • You must complete the Common Application Form (CAF) for your home borough regardless of whether you are applying for schools in or outside of that borough. Please check that your child’s address is in Lambeth borough before completing the Lambeth Common Application Form (CAF) • Lambeth residents must complete the Lambeth CAF, online or paper, to apply to all schools either in Lambeth or outside of the borough with the exception of private (fee-paying) schools • Residents of boroughs other than Lambeth who wish to apply for a Lambeth school must complete the CAF provided by the home borough in which they live. The details of your application will then be passed on to Lambeth Council by your home borough • You can apply online from our website: www.lambeth.gov.uk/ eadmissions (see page 5 for further details) or you can complete a paper CAF, which is in the centre of this booklet or can be downloaded from our website • In addition to the CAF some schools require a supplementary information form to be completed. This can be obtained from the school. Please check the admissions arrangements for each school you are applying for to see if such a form is required. The Lambeth school supplementary information forms are located at the back of this booklet An application may not be considered if you have not fully submitted a supplementary information form when a school requires it. All supplementary information forms should be returned to the school concerned by 19 or 26 October 2012 depending on the school and not to the council. Please ensure that if you bring any children to the above meetings they remain with you at all times. Lambeth Council and school staff cannot be held liable for unaccompanied children in the building, nor can they take any responsibility for children brought to meetings. submit your application online or by post so that we receive it by Friday 26 October 2012. This is the Friday before the half-term holiday • Applications received by Wednesday 31 October 2012 will be accepted a ‘on time’. However, if your application is received by Friday 26 October 2012, we can ensure that it is checked, and acknowledged before the closing date 8 SECTION 1 / PROCESS AND PROCEDURE
• Parents/carers who prefer to hand in the a form at their child’s primary school, will need to ensure that they do this by Friday 26 October 2012, so that the school can forward it to us before the half-term holiday • Some schools in Lambeth and neighbouring boroughs require applicants to take banding tests. See the schools’ pages in this booklet for further details of Lambeth schools which require tests to be taken • Parents/carers are able to list up to six schools on the CAF • It is very important that you select the schools on the CAF in the order that you prefer them. If more than one school is able to offer your child a place we will look at your list of preferences and make an offer for the school that is placed highest • The admissions authority will consider your application individually against the school’s admissions criteria. The schools will not know your preferences • We recommend that you apply for no fewer than four schools including one school closest to your home as this could increase your chances of an offer. Remember, schools will allocate places according to their admissions criteria and are not obliged to offer a place because you have limited your preferences • If you think that your child has an exceptional need and you would like this need considered as part of your application you must state this in the relevant section medical or social of the CAF. You must provide professionally supported evidence with your application. Online applicants should post supporting evidence to Lambeth School Admissions Team. If you do not provide any professional supporting evidence of your child’s needs the admissions authority will be unable to consider your application on these grounds. • If your child has a statement of Special Educational Needs, do not complete a CAF, please see page 61 for further information. If you are not a Lambeth resident please contact your home borough for advice. Online applications You will be able to apply online from 1 September 2012 (see page 5 for further details). We recommend applying online as this avoids any potential problems with the post. In addition to your notification letter you will also be able to find out the result of your application online on 1 March 2013, therefore you will not have to rely on waiting for your letter to arrive in the post. Also, with electronic applications you have an advantage of being able to amend your preferences at any time up until the closing date. The closing date All Common Application Forms (CAF) whether online or paper, should be returned by the closing date of Wednesday 31 October 2012. However, we are encouraging applicants to submit their application no later than the 26 October 2012 (i.e. the Friday before half term), to allow it sufficient time for processing and checking. Any CAFs received after 31 October 2012 will be late and will not be processed until after 1 March 2013, when offers have been generated for ‘on time’ applications. Notification of outcome All offers of school places are made all over the country on the same day, National Offer Day, which will be 1 March 2013. Lambeth Council will send a letter to Lambeth residents informing them of the outcome of their application by first class post on that day.
