What to do if you are offered<br />

a place at a school<br />

You must respond to an offer of a<br />

place by return<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> reply slip<br />

<strong>in</strong>cluded with your offer letter by<br />

15 March <strong>2013</strong> to <strong>the</strong> admissions<br />

team based <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> council area that<br />

you live <strong>in</strong>. In addition, some schools<br />

may also send <strong>the</strong>ir own offers to<br />

parents/carers after 1 March <strong>2013</strong>,<br />

responses to those letters should be<br />

made accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> school’s<br />

directions.<br />

What to do if you are not<br />

offered a place at a school<br />

In l<strong>in</strong>e with statutory requirements,<br />

<strong>Lambeth</strong> <strong>Council</strong> will look to allocate<br />

places <strong>in</strong> <strong>Lambeth</strong> schools that have<br />

vacancies for those <strong>Lambeth</strong><br />

parents/carers whose children did<br />

not receive an offer from one of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

preferred schools by <strong>the</strong> 1 March<br />

<strong>2013</strong>. These allocations will be made<br />

on <strong>the</strong> basis of distance, ie, <strong>the</strong><br />

nearest school to <strong>the</strong> child’s home<br />

address that identifies a vacancy.<br />

Please note that allocations will be<br />

made accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> number of<br />

vacancies <strong>the</strong>re are <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> borough.<br />

An allocation will be made to a<br />

school that parents/carers did<br />

not orig<strong>in</strong>ally apply for.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> event that you do not receive<br />

an offer of a place at one of <strong>the</strong><br />

schools you selected on your CAF,<br />

<strong>Lambeth</strong> School Admissions Team<br />

will provide you with additional<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation regard<strong>in</strong>g wait<strong>in</strong>g lists,<br />

appeals and o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>formation that<br />

could help resolve <strong>the</strong> issue. We will<br />

also be able to provide you with<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation about schools that have<br />

vacancies after 25 March <strong>2013</strong>. You<br />

will <strong>the</strong>n have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to<br />

apply for additional schools by<br />

complet<strong>in</strong>g a new CAF.<br />

Wait<strong>in</strong>g lists<br />

Your child’s name will automatically<br />

be placed on <strong>the</strong> wait<strong>in</strong>g list for any<br />

<strong>Lambeth</strong> community or voluntarycontrolled<br />

schools you may have<br />

applied to as a higher preference to<br />

that offered. If your child does not<br />

receive an offer at all, <strong>the</strong>ir name will<br />

also be <strong>in</strong>cluded on <strong>the</strong> wait<strong>in</strong>g list<br />

for any <strong>Lambeth</strong> community or<br />

voluntary-controlled school you may<br />

have applied to. If you have applied<br />

to voluntary-aided or foundation<br />

schools or those <strong>in</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r borough<br />

and you wish to rema<strong>in</strong> on <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

wait<strong>in</strong>g list, you will need to contact<br />

that school or borough directly. The<br />

contact details for our neighbour<strong>in</strong>g<br />

boroughs are on page 60.<br />

Parents/carers need to be aware<br />

that if <strong>the</strong>ir child’s name is on a<br />

school’s wait<strong>in</strong>g list, <strong>the</strong>ir name may<br />

go up or down depend<strong>in</strong>g on how<br />

<strong>the</strong> admissions criteria applies to<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs on <strong>the</strong> wait<strong>in</strong>g list.<br />

Late applications<br />

Applications received after <strong>the</strong><br />

clos<strong>in</strong>g date of 31 October 2012<br />

will be considered after National<br />

Offer Day, 1 March <strong>2013</strong>.<br />

Parents/carers of late applicants will<br />

be notified as soon as an offer can<br />

be made from an admissions<br />

authority. If <strong>the</strong>re are, however,<br />

vacancies <strong>in</strong> any school, <strong>Lambeth</strong><br />

residents can be allocated that place<br />

once <strong>the</strong>y have come to <strong>the</strong><br />

attention of <strong>Lambeth</strong> <strong>Council</strong>.<br />
