Build<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

The ethos and vision of The<br />

Elmgreen School is clear <strong>in</strong> its<br />

exceptional build<strong>in</strong>g, which opened<br />

<strong>in</strong> September 2009. The build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

provides an excit<strong>in</strong>g, flexible learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

environment with lecture spaces,<br />

amphi<strong>the</strong>atre, media and music<br />

suites, exceptional art and design<br />

workshops, outstand<strong>in</strong>g sports<br />

facilities, high quality ICT throughout<br />

<strong>the</strong> school and an <strong>in</strong>spirational library<br />

and learn<strong>in</strong>g resource centre.<br />

Sixth Form<br />

The Elmgreen School will welcomed<br />

its first <strong>in</strong>take of students <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong><br />

Sixth Form <strong>in</strong> September 2012. As<br />

part of <strong>the</strong> South London Sixth (SL6)<br />

collaboration, our close l<strong>in</strong>ks enable<br />

us to offer an extended range of<br />

subjects and enrichment activities.<br />

Admissions criteria<br />

Criterion 1 Looked after children or<br />

previously looked after children.<br />

A looked after child is a child who is<br />

(a) <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> care of a local authority, or<br />

(b) be<strong>in</strong>g provided with<br />

accommodation by a local authority<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> exercise of <strong>the</strong>ir social services<br />

functions (as per section 22(1) of <strong>the</strong><br />

Children Act 1989). A previously<br />

looked after child is a child who was<br />

adopted, or subject to a residence<br />

order, or special guardianship order,<br />

immediately follow<strong>in</strong>g hav<strong>in</strong>g been<br />

looked after. Applications made<br />

under this criterion must be<br />

accompanied by a letter from <strong>the</strong><br />

relevant local authority.<br />

Criterion 2 Sibl<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

Children with a bro<strong>the</strong>r or sister who<br />

already attends <strong>the</strong> school, and who<br />

will not have left <strong>the</strong> school at <strong>the</strong><br />

time of admission. As a result sibl<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> nursery or Year 6 of a primary<br />

school, or Year 11 at a secondary<br />

school will not be regarded as a<br />

sibl<strong>in</strong>g under this criterion. A sibl<strong>in</strong>g is<br />

def<strong>in</strong>ed as a full/half/step bro<strong>the</strong>r or<br />

sister (who are liv<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> same<br />

address <strong>in</strong> all <strong>in</strong>stances) or a child<br />

who is liv<strong>in</strong>g as part of <strong>the</strong> family by<br />

reason of a court order, or a child<br />

who has been placed with foster<br />

carers at that address as a result of<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g looked after by <strong>the</strong> council.<br />
