will be placed <strong>in</strong> rank order accord<strong>in</strong>g<br />

All pupils at Sa<strong>in</strong>t Gabriel's College<br />

have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to apply for<br />

peripatetic music lessons.<br />

available from <strong>the</strong> school, as well as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Common Application Form from<br />

<strong>Open</strong> Places<br />

The governors have designated 65%<br />

of places each year as <strong>Open</strong> Places, to<br />

be offered to pupils who do not qualify<br />

for a Church Foundation place.<br />

If <strong>the</strong>re are more applications than<br />

places, places will be allocated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g priority order.<br />

1. Children who are “Looked After” i.e.<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> care of local authorities or<br />

previously looked after, or subject to a<br />

residence or special guardianship order<br />

under <strong>the</strong> Children Act 1989<br />

2. Children who will have a bro<strong>the</strong>r(s)<br />

and/or sister(s) already at St Gabriel's<br />

College when <strong>the</strong>y enter <strong>the</strong> school<br />

3. Children who have a special need<br />

that can be met by <strong>the</strong> School. This is<br />

to be supported by evidence from a<br />

suitable professional agency, e.g.<br />

teacher, social worker, doctor etc,<br />

stat<strong>in</strong>g why this would be <strong>the</strong> most<br />

suitable school and <strong>the</strong> difficulties that<br />

would be caused if <strong>the</strong> child had to<br />

attend ano<strong>the</strong>r school.<br />

4. The shortest safe walk<strong>in</strong>g route by<br />

road.<br />

Parents apply<strong>in</strong>g for an open place or a<br />

specialist place do so know<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong><br />

school aims to provide an education<br />

based on Christian pr<strong>in</strong>ciples and<br />

<strong>the</strong>refore <strong>the</strong> governors hope that all<br />

students will take part <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian<br />

worship of <strong>the</strong> school and will attend<br />

religious education lessons. Parents<br />

wish<strong>in</strong>g to apply for an open place<br />

should do so by fill<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Common<br />

Application Form available from <strong>the</strong><br />

Local Authority.<br />

Where two or more applicants have<br />

equal right to a place and <strong>the</strong>re are<br />

<strong>in</strong>sufficient places available, <strong>the</strong> matter<br />

will be determ<strong>in</strong>ed by distance <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

first <strong>in</strong>stance. If this is <strong>in</strong>sufficient, <strong>the</strong><br />

matter will be decided by draw<strong>in</strong>g lots.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> case of tw<strong>in</strong>s or o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>-year<br />

sibl<strong>in</strong>gs, <strong>the</strong> governors would admit<br />

both children.<br />

Appeal arrangements<br />

Unsuccessful applicants will have <strong>the</strong><br />

right to appeal aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong> decision to<br />

an Independent Admissions Appeals<br />

Panel established under <strong>the</strong> School<br />

Standards and Framework Act<br />

1998. Independent appeals for this<br />

school are arranged by school staff,<br />

please telephone <strong>the</strong> school for an<br />

appeals form.<br />

How to apply<br />

1 Applications must be made<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Common<br />

Application Form from your<br />

home borough by 31 October<br />

2012. However, we are<br />

encourag<strong>in</strong>g applicants to<br />

submit <strong>the</strong>ir application no<br />

later than <strong>the</strong> 26 October<br />

2012 (i.e. <strong>the</strong> Friday before<br />

half term), to allow it<br />

sufficient time for process<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and check<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
