Children with statements of<br />
Special Educational Needs<br />
By <strong>the</strong> end of Summer term 2012,<br />
parents/ carers of children resident <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Lambeth</strong>, with a statement of<br />
Special Educational Needs, will<br />
receive a letter with a form ask<strong>in</strong>g for<br />
secondary school preferences from<br />
<strong>Lambeth</strong> Special Educational Needs<br />
Team. This correspondence will also<br />
<strong>in</strong>form <strong>the</strong>m about <strong>the</strong> process for<br />
transferr<strong>in</strong>g to secondary school and<br />
<strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m to notify <strong>Lambeth</strong><br />
CYPS of <strong>the</strong> name of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
preferred school. The Special<br />
Educational Needs Team will <strong>the</strong>n<br />
consult with your preferred<br />
secondary school.<br />
It is <strong>the</strong>refore important that you<br />
complete this form and return it.<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong>stream schools with<br />
provision for children with SEN<br />
Dunraven SLCN Centre<br />
Dunraven school has additional<br />
provision for students with speech<br />
and language difficulties via its<br />
Speech, Language and<br />
Communication Needs (SLCN)<br />
Centre.<br />
The SLCN Centre can directly support<br />
up to 15 students. Three places are<br />
available <strong>in</strong> each year group (7–11) for<br />
this level of provision. Students who<br />
qualify for this support will have a<br />
Statement of Special Educational<br />
Needs that identifies <strong>the</strong>ir prime area<br />
of difficulty as communication need<strong>in</strong>g<br />
direct SLT support. As students are<br />
part of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>clusive <strong>in</strong>tegrated<br />
provision of <strong>the</strong> school, <strong>the</strong>y must also<br />
be able to cope with <strong>the</strong> demands,<br />
structures and expectations of<br />
Dunraven's ma<strong>in</strong>stream environment.<br />
They are all taught <strong>in</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>stream<br />
classes.<br />
The Elmgreen School – The<br />
Hear<strong>in</strong>g Support Department –<br />
HSD (sometimes referred to as ‘The<br />
Hear<strong>in</strong>g Impaired Unit’) is <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Lambeth</strong> secondary provision for<br />
students with a hear<strong>in</strong>g loss and<br />
accompany<strong>in</strong>g communication and<br />
learn<strong>in</strong>g needs who will benefit from<br />
specialist Teacher of <strong>the</strong> Deaf and<br />
Teach<strong>in</strong>g Assistant (TA) support<br />
throughout <strong>the</strong> school day. The<br />
department is located with<strong>in</strong> The<br />
Elmgreen School, a state of <strong>the</strong> art,<br />
new-build comprehensive so enabl<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a high degree of <strong>in</strong>clusive education<br />
and <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong> social experiences.<br />
Lilian Baylis Technology School<br />
SEN Provision<br />
It is <strong>the</strong> schools aim to have two<br />
specialist areas for children with SEN.<br />
An ASD unit for 15 pupils and a unit<br />
for up to 15 children with Physical<br />
Difficulties. The aim is to educate <strong>the</strong><br />
pupils alongside <strong>the</strong>ir ma<strong>in</strong>stream<br />
peers whenever possible.<br />
Stockwell Park High School –<br />
ASD Unit<br />
The school aims to admit 5 pupils per<br />
year with diagnoses of ASD for three<br />
years so that by 2016 <strong>the</strong> unit will<br />
have reached its capacity and will be<br />
support<strong>in</strong>g 15 pupils. The aim is to<br />
educate <strong>the</strong> ASD pupils alongside<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir ma<strong>in</strong>stream peers whenever<br />
possible. The specialist area is<br />
for short term withdrawal when<br />
necessary. At present all <strong>the</strong><br />
pupils with ASD diagnoses are <strong>in</strong><br />
ma<strong>in</strong>stream classes and most are<br />
participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> full curriculum.<br />
