Range of Ability<br />
As a voluntary-aided, Church of<br />
England, comprehensive school, we<br />
offer places across <strong>the</strong> full range of<br />
academic achievement and<br />
potential. To secure an effective<br />
balance of ability across each <strong>in</strong>take<br />
and throughout <strong>the</strong> school, all<br />
applicants will be required to take a<br />
series of standard tests at <strong>the</strong> school<br />
(on a stated day) <strong>in</strong> regard to literacy,<br />
numeracy, comprehension and<br />
<strong>in</strong>telligence (IQ). This is common<br />
practice with a number of schools <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Lambeth</strong>. On <strong>the</strong> results of <strong>the</strong>se<br />
tests, applicants will be placed <strong>in</strong><br />
one of <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g bands: above<br />
average, average, below average.<br />
For September <strong>2013</strong>, places will be<br />
offered, as far as applications allow<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> proportions 30:50:20 for <strong>the</strong><br />
three bands.<br />
Over-Subscription<br />
Where applications for admission<br />
exceed <strong>the</strong> number of places<br />
available, <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g criteria will be<br />
applied under <strong>the</strong> two types of places,<br />
Foundation and <strong>Open</strong>, <strong>in</strong> each ability<br />
band, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> order set out below, to<br />
decide which students to admit:<br />
Foundation:<br />
70% of places will be allocated <strong>in</strong> this<br />
category. If <strong>the</strong> Foundation places are<br />
oversubscribed, length of regular<br />
church attendance of child and<br />
parents will be taken <strong>in</strong>to account.<br />
1 ‘Looked after’ children, namely<br />
those <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> care of <strong>the</strong> council under<br />
Section 31 of <strong>the</strong> Children Act 1989.<br />
2 Boys from worshipp<strong>in</strong>g Anglican<br />
families.<br />
3 Boys from worshipp<strong>in</strong>g families of<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r Christian denom<strong>in</strong>ations.<br />
4 Up to five places are <strong>in</strong>itially<br />
reserved for boys from each of <strong>the</strong><br />
parishes of St Mart<strong>in</strong>-<strong>in</strong>-<strong>the</strong>-Fields<br />
and St James’s, Piccadilly.<br />
