The London Nautical School<br />

Headteacher<br />
Mr H Dastagir BSc<br />
accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g criteria:<br />
1 Pupils who are <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> care<br />
of a <strong>Council</strong> or provided with<br />
accommodation by that <strong>Council</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />
accordance with <strong>the</strong> Children Act<br />
1989, often known as `looked after<br />
children' (also a legal obligation).<br />
This will <strong>in</strong>clude any who are<br />
`previously looked after children’<br />
(def<strong>in</strong>ed as those who have ceased<br />
to be because of adoption, a<br />
residence order or a special<br />
guardianship order).<br />
2 Pupils who already have ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />
sibl<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> school roll (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>the</strong> 6th form) as at September <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
Sibl<strong>in</strong>g is def<strong>in</strong>ed as a full, half or<br />
step bro<strong>the</strong>r/sister who is liv<strong>in</strong>g at<br />
<strong>the</strong> same home address, and may<br />
<strong>in</strong>clude an adopted or fostered child<br />
provided <strong>the</strong>y can be proven to be<br />

3 All o<strong>the</strong>r pupils.<br />
Pupils with a Statement of Special<br />
Education Needs who have named<br />
London Nautical as <strong>the</strong>ir school of<br />
choice (this is a legal obligation).<br />
All applicants under category 3 are<br />
treated equally, and <strong>in</strong> common with<br />
many o<strong>the</strong>r schools, where <strong>the</strong>re<br />
are more applicants than places<br />
available, all potential pupils<br />
(<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g those <strong>in</strong> categories<br />
1, 2 and 3) will sit a `test' for <strong>the</strong><br />
purposes of band<strong>in</strong>g ability. This<br />
enables us to ensure <strong>the</strong> school has<br />
a very wide range of ability with<strong>in</strong> it.<br />
Pupils are allocated to one of 3<br />
bands accord<strong>in</strong>g to results. Where<br />
<strong>the</strong>re are more applicants than<br />
places with<strong>in</strong> a particular band,<br />
allocation of those places will be<br />
by way of random selection with<br />
all pupils hav<strong>in</strong>g equal opportunity.<br />
An appropriate <strong>in</strong>dependent person<br />
who is not a member of <strong>the</strong> school<br />
staff, governors or an LNS parent,<br />
will supervise this process. In <strong>the</strong><br />
case of tw<strong>in</strong>s, where one is allocated<br />
a place <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> ballot, <strong>the</strong> rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
tw<strong>in</strong> will also receive a place with<strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>ir relevant band.<br />
All admissions are co-ord<strong>in</strong>ated<br />
through <strong>the</strong> Pan-London Coord<strong>in</strong>ated<br />
scheme and parents<br />
will be required to apply on <strong>the</strong><br />
appropriate Common Application<br />
Form via <strong>the</strong>ir Local Authority before<br />
<strong>the</strong> published date. In addition, a<br />
supplementary form must be sent to<br />
<strong>the</strong> Admissions Department at <strong>the</strong><br />
London Nautical School by <strong>the</strong> same<br />
date. The Local Authority will advise<br />
parents whe<strong>the</strong>r or not a place at <strong>the</strong><br />
school has been allocated to <strong>the</strong>m<br />
on <strong>the</strong> 1 March <strong>2013</strong>. Parents are<br />
allocated <strong>the</strong> highest preference<br />
school that has offered a place.<br />
Wait<strong>in</strong>g lists<br />
The London Nautical School will<br />
operate a wait<strong>in</strong>g list. Where <strong>in</strong> any<br />
year The London Nautical School<br />
receives more applications for places<br />
than <strong>the</strong>re are places available a<br />
wait<strong>in</strong>g list will be ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed by The<br />
London Nautical School from 1<br />
September of <strong>the</strong> year to which <strong>the</strong><br />
application applied <strong>in</strong> accordance<br />
with council guidel<strong>in</strong>es.<br />
Children’s position on <strong>the</strong> wait<strong>in</strong>g<br />

vacant <strong>the</strong>y will be allocated to<br />

admit will be given precedence for<br />
admission over children on <strong>the</strong><br />
