Checklist for using Lambeth’s online or paper Common Application Form (CAF) When applying for a secondary school place using Lambeth’s CAF please ensure that you have: Researched thoroughly each school you are interested in. You can do this by reading the prospectus available from the school or information in this booklet. If it is not a Lambeth school you will need to obtain information from the school or the school’s borough Checked that your child’s address is within Lambeth borough Checked that your child meets the admissions criteria for the schools you are considering Completed all relevant sections of the online or paper CAF. Failure to complete the CAF in full may hinder its processing Enclosed any supporting evidence (eg. a letter from the family doctor/consultant in support of any medical claim). For online applications you will need to send this directly to the Lambeth School Admissions Team with your child’s name, date of birth and the online CAF reference number Used the correct postage, when sending any paper CAFs to the Lambeth School Admissions Team Included a stamped addressed envelope when submitting a paper CAF. Please note that for paper CAFs we will only send a receipt as proof that this form has been received if a stamped addressed envelope is attached. For online applicants proof of receipt is automatically generated, upon submission, through the generation of a unique reference number Obtained and completed any supplementary information forms (SIF) from schools that require them. The Lambeth schools SIFs are located at the back of this booklet. The SIFs must be returned to the school by 19 or 26 October, depending on the school. However, we strongly recommend that you submit your CAF online or by post so that we receive it by Friday 26 October 2012. This is the Friday before the half-term holiday. Applications received by Wednesday 31 October 2012 will be accepted. However, if your application is received by Friday 26 October 2012, we can ensure that it is checked and acknowledged before the closing date Parents/carers who prefer to hand in the a form at their child’s primary school, will need to ensure that they do this by Friday 26 October 2012, so that the school can forward it to us before the half-term holiday Considered applying online: We recommend applying online as this avoids any potential problems with the post. In addition to your notification letter you will also be able to find out the result of your application online on 1 March 2013, therefore you will not have to rely on waiting for your letter to arrive in the post. In addition to this, with electronic applications you have an advantage of being able to amend your preferences at any time up until the closing date. The completed Common Application Forms should be returned by Wednesday 31 October 2012. However, we are encouraging applicants to submit their application no later than 26 October 2012 (i.e. the Friday before half term), to allow it sufficient time for processing and checking. Secondary transfer and the London co-ordinated admissions procedure Secondary transfer is an important time and the aim of this booklet is to help parents/carers and children make the transition to secondary school. Please read this section carefully. It will provide the information that you need to make considered judgements about which schools will best provide the academic and social environment that your child will need to make a success of their ongoing school career. If you are unsure about any aspect of the transfer process please contact Lambeth School Admissions Team on 020 7926 9503 and/or attend one of the secondary transfer meetings organised to provide information and support. Please see the inside cover for a guide to terms used in this booklet. Legislation and purpose The Education Act 2002 and the School Admissions Code 2012 provides a framework that seeks to ensure that on National Offer Day as many children as possible whose parents/carers have applied for a school place ‘on time’ receives an offer (if an offer can be made) at a school for which they have expressed a preference. The procedure is not however able to guarantee that every child who has submitted an ‘on time’ application will receive the offer of a school place at a preferred school. Deciding which schools to apply for It is important to consider as much information as possible about the schools you wish to apply to. Check whether your child is likely to be offered a place based on the school’s published admissions criteria, which can be found on the individual school’s pages in this booklet. You can find out information about schools by doing the following: • Reading this booklet carefully and looking at the admissions criteria for each school • Contacting the school directly for a copy of their prospectus • Going to the school’s open days or evenings. Details of open days are listed on the school’s pages in this booklet or available directly from the school • Talking to your child’s primary school headteacher, learning mentor or class teacher • Reading the latest Ofsted report for the schools you are interested in. These are available for viewing or downloading from www.ofsted.gov.uk • If the school you want is in a different borough, contact that borough for their booklet (details on page 60).
