E-learn<strong>in</strong>g, six-weekly assessments<br />
and careful target-sett<strong>in</strong>g are used to<br />
support personalised learn<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
many opportunities are provided for<br />
pupils to develop <strong>the</strong>ir Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and<br />
Enterprise skills <strong>in</strong> real projects and<br />
to share <strong>the</strong>ir f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs with o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />
Able, gifted and talented pupils are<br />
identified across <strong>the</strong> curriculum and<br />
are kept on target through regular<br />
monitor<strong>in</strong>g of progress. The needs of<br />
our academically able pupils are also<br />
supported through our new<br />
academic programme, <strong>the</strong> Grammar<br />
School Pathway.<br />
At Key Stage 4 <strong>the</strong> curriculum is<br />
rich and diverse with many different<br />
pathways designed to meet<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividual pupils' needs. Pupils<br />
can take <strong>the</strong> English Baccalaureate<br />
subjects: English, Ma<strong>the</strong>matics,<br />
Science, a language and ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />
History or Geography. A wide range<br />
of o<strong>the</strong>r courses are also available,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Art, Drama, ICT, Media,<br />
PE, Technology, and a variety of<br />
vocational courses. Work-related<br />
learn<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> spirit of enterprise<br />
also permeates <strong>the</strong> curriculum at<br />
Key Stage 4 and <strong>the</strong>re are extensive<br />
opportunities for work experience.<br />
Pupils' progress is closely tracked<br />
through our programme of sixweekly<br />
assessments. We expect<br />
pupils to develop as <strong>in</strong>dependent<br />
learners under <strong>the</strong> guidance and<br />
support of <strong>the</strong>ir teachers.<br />
Develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> whole pupil<br />
There are many opportunities for<br />
extra-curricular activities with<strong>in</strong> our<br />
Centres of Excellence. School teams<br />
challenge o<strong>the</strong>r schools <strong>in</strong> football,<br />
cricket, rugby, basketball, netball,<br />
volleyball, swimm<strong>in</strong>g, badm<strong>in</strong>ton<br />
and chess. The Centre of Excellence<br />
for Sports offers specialist coach<strong>in</strong>g<br />
for a range of sports, not normally<br />
available, through scholarships<br />
for those show<strong>in</strong>g talent and<br />
commitment. The Centre of<br />
Excellence for Drama provides<br />
additional tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, scholarships,<br />
<strong>the</strong>atre visits, workshops and master<br />
classes, as well as opportunities for<br />
public performances. The Centre of<br />
Excellence for Creative Writ<strong>in</strong>g helps<br />
pupils to focus on poetry, learn<br />
about <strong>the</strong> media and develop <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
journalistic skills.<br />
Admissions criteria<br />
The ma<strong>in</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ciple of admission to<br />
Stockwell Park High School is to<br />
secure and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> character<br />
of <strong>the</strong> school as a comprehensive<br />
school, provid<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> needs of<br />
young people with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 11–19 age<br />
range. In order to achieve this, <strong>the</strong><br />
admissions criteria have been<br />
designed to produce an <strong>in</strong>take that<br />
is representative of <strong>the</strong> national<br />
ability range. Pupils will, <strong>the</strong>refore,<br />
be admitted accord<strong>in</strong>g to a band<strong>in</strong>g<br />
system. Three ability bands will<br />
be determ<strong>in</strong>ed by <strong>the</strong> results<br />
of Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT<br />
scores) and <strong>the</strong> school will admit<br />
approximately 20% of pupils from<br />
<strong>the</strong> top band, 60% of pupils from<br />
<strong>the</strong> middle band and 20% of pupils<br />
from <strong>the</strong> lower band. The number<br />
<strong>in</strong>tended to be admitted <strong>in</strong><br />
September <strong>2013</strong> will be 210. The<br />
school participates <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> council’s<br />
co-ord<strong>in</strong>ated procedure and all<br />
deadl<strong>in</strong>es with<strong>in</strong> that should be<br />
adhered to by applicants. As<br />
required by government regulations,<br />
<strong>the</strong> school will give top priority to<br />
applications on behalf of children <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> care, or previously <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> care,<br />
of <strong>the</strong> council (`looked after' children)<br />
resid<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>the</strong> primary carer as<br />
evidenced by <strong>the</strong> child benefit<br />
allowance <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> admission area.<br />
