On 28 September 1809, he married Elizabeth Cole Shipley <strong>and</strong> they had one child, David Stuart Erskine, 13th Earl <strong>of</strong> Buchan<br />

The Hon. Henry Erskine (1 November 1746 - 8 October 1817) was a Scottish politician <strong>and</strong> lawyer.<br />
The second son <strong>of</strong> Henry David Erskine, 10th Earl <strong>of</strong> Buchan <strong>and</strong> brother <strong>of</strong> the Lord Chancellor Thomas Erskine, he studied at St<br />
Andrews University, Edinburgh University <strong>and</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Glasgow.<br />
He was appointed Lord Advocate from 1783 to 1784 in the Fox-North Coalition <strong>and</strong> again from 1806 to 1807 in the Grenville<br />
ministry. He was advocate <strong>and</strong> state councillor to the Prince <strong>of</strong> Wales in <strong>Scotl<strong>and</strong></strong> from 1783. He was Dean <strong>of</strong> the Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />
Advocates from 1785 to 1795, but was not re-elected, having condemned the "sedition" <strong>and</strong> "treason" bills as unconstitutional.<br />
He was Member <strong>of</strong> Parliament for Haddington burghs from April to November 1806, <strong>and</strong> for Dumfries burghs from 1806 to 1807. He<br />
was appointed as a Commissioner to inquire into administration <strong>of</strong> justice in <strong>Scotl<strong>and</strong></strong> in 1808. In 1811 he gave up his practice at the<br />
bar <strong>and</strong> retired to his country residence <strong>of</strong> Almondell, in Linlithgowshire.<br />
His eldest son, Henry David, succeeded as 12th Earl <strong>of</strong> Buchan on his uncle's death in 1829<br />
Described as a "friend <strong>of</strong> the poor", he published The Emigrant, an Eclogue, 1773 <strong>and</strong> other poems.<br />

Lord Lieutenant <strong>of</strong> Lanarkshire.<br />
In 1843 he married Marie Amélie von Baden, daughter <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Gr<strong>and</strong></strong> Duke <strong>of</strong> Baden <strong>and</strong> Stéphanie de Beauharnais the adopted<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Napoleon I. He died in Paris.<br />
Their daughter, Lady Mary Victoria Hamilton, married firstly Albert I, Prince <strong>of</strong> Monaco.<br />

William Alex<strong>and</strong>er Anthony Archibald Hamilton, 11th Duke <strong>of</strong> Hamilton was born on 19 February 1811 in Grosvenor Place,<br />
London, Engl<strong>and</strong>. He was the son <strong>of</strong> Sir Alex<strong>and</strong>er Hamilton, 10th Duke <strong>of</strong> Hamilton <strong>and</strong> Susan Euphemia Beckford. He married<br />
Marie Amelie Elisabeth Karoline Prinzessin von Baden, daughter <strong>of</strong> Karl Ludwig Friedrich Großherzog von Baden <strong>and</strong> Stéphanie<br />
Louise Adrienne de Beauharnais, Vicomtesse de Beauharnais, on 23 February 1843 in Ducal Palace, Mannheim, Baden-<br />
Württemburg, Germany. He died on 15 July 1863 at age 52 in Masion Dorée, Boulevard des Italiens, Paris, France, from a fall after<br />
supper.<br />

wrote as 'Very Duke <strong>of</strong> Very Duke'. He was a book collector <strong>and</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> the Roxburghe Club. His Lancashire estates, which<br />
he sold in 1853, realised £329,800."<br />
