William Kerr, Lord Newbottle; 6th Marquess <strong>of</strong> Lothian KT (4 October 1763–27 April 1824) was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> William Kerr, 5th Marquess <strong>of</strong> Lothian.<br />

He married, firstly, Lady Harriet [Henrietta] Hobart-Hampden, a younger daughter <strong>of</strong> 2nd Earl <strong>of</strong><br />

Buckinghamshire (<strong>and</strong> the widow <strong>of</strong> the 1st Earl <strong>of</strong> Belmore), on 14 April 1793. They had four<br />

children:<br />

John William Robert Earl <strong>of</strong> Ancram (b. 1794–1841)<br />

Lord Schomberg Robert (1795–1825), soldier, died unmarried.<br />

Lady Isabella Emily Caroline (1797–1858), died unmarried.<br />

Lord Henry Francis Charles (1800–1882), religious minister, married Louisa Hope, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir<br />

Alex<strong>and</strong>er Hope.<br />

His first wife died in 1805 <strong>and</strong> on 1 December 1806, he married Lady Harriet Scott, a younger<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> the 3rd Duke <strong>of</strong> Buccleuch. They had eight children:<br />

Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Kerr (d. 1871), married the 19th Baron Clinton.<br />

Lady Harriet Louise Anne (d. 1884), married Sir John Hepburn-Forbes, 8th Baronet.<br />

Lady Frances (d. 1863), married George Wade.<br />

Lady Anne Katherine (d. 1829), died unmarried.<br />

Lady Georgiana Augusta (d. 1859), married Rev. Granville Forbes.<br />

Lord Charles Lennox (1814–1898), soldier, married Charlotte Hanmer, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir Thomas Hanmer, 2nd Baronet.<br />

Lord Mark Ralph George (1817–1900), soldier, died unmarried.<br />

Lord Frederick Herbert (1818–?), admiral, married Emily Maitl<strong>and</strong>, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir Peregrine Maitl<strong>and</strong>.<br />

William’s 2nd wife was Lady Harriet Scott (1780-1833), whose brother, Charles William Henry Montagu-Scott (1772-1819), 4th<br />

Duke <strong>of</strong> Buccleuch, was GM <strong>Scotl<strong>and</strong></strong> 1800-02 [below].<br />

His sister-in-law’s father was William R<strong>and</strong>all Mac Donnell, 1749-91, 1st Marquess Antrim, GM Irel<strong>and</strong> 1772 <strong>and</strong> 1778, <strong>and</strong> GM<br />

Antients GL 1783-91.<br />

Blickling Hall, inheritance <strong>of</strong> Harriet Hobart, first wife <strong>of</strong> William Kerr<br />

Waterloo monument (Pienielheugh aka Peniel Heugh)<br />

Penielheugh st<strong>and</strong>s on a hill over 700 feet above sea level.<br />

It was built by the 6th Marquess <strong>of</strong> Lothian to commemorate the battle <strong>of</strong> Waterloo.<br />
