13. A 19-year-old girl complains of
swelling of the abdomen, oedema of the
legs and amenorrhoea for 7 months. The
blood pressure is 100/110 and the urine
contains protein. What is the most likely
diagnosis?
14. A 43-year-old woman has 3 children
aged 19, 17 and 12 respectively. All her
pregnancies were uneventful except for a
post partum haemmorrhage in the last. She
now has amenorrhoea and complains of
lassitude, intolerance of cold, and occasional
episodes of confusion in which she
sometimes loses consciousness. On examination
she is a thin, pale woman with no
axillary or pubic hair.
a. What is the diagnosis?
b. Why does she become confused or
unconscious?
15. A 50-year-old man complains of
weakness in both hands and the left forearm.
On examination there is wasting of
the muscles in both hands and in the left
forearm, and there is fibrillation of these
muscles. All tendon jerks in both arms and
legs are very brisk, and there is patella and
ankle clonus. The plantar responses are
entensor. Diagnosis?
16. A boy of 16 experienced a sudden
severe headache and became confused. On
admission he had marked neck stiffness and
a port wine stain on his face. Lumbar
puncture revealed evenly blood stained
C.S.F. What is the cause of this, and what
is the underlying lesion?
