recreational opportunities waiting for<br />

you in the Great Sand Hills/Diefenbaker<br />

events as well to delight and entertain<br />

you: on June 23 and 24, 2012, the<br />

skies over Swift Current will be alive<br />

with some of the most unique kites in<br />

the world, during the eighth annual<br />

Windscape Kite Festival. Swift Current is<br />

also the site for the Long Days Night<br />

Music Festival from June 21-23, 2012,<br />

celebrating three of the longest days of<br />

the year with a wide range of music<br />

and lots of fun. July 12-15, 2012 is time<br />

for a return to the 1920s, when Swift<br />

Current’s Lyric Theatre welcomes<br />

Summer Chautauqua. Listen to lectures,<br />

music and story-telling, drink<br />

sarsparilla, eat corndogs, and enjoy<br />

world-class touring theatre artists, just<br />

as local audiences did 90 years ago.<br />

For more examples of western cultural<br />

history, check out the rodeos in the<br />

Sand Hills /Lake Diefenbaker area, and<br />

be sure to visit a Round Dance and<br />

Pow Wow at Swift Current’s Living Sky<br />

Casino. To round off your experience<br />

with a personal touch, drop around to<br />

the Glass Slipper Spa for esthetics, skin<br />

care, laser services or pilates classes.<br />

In this part of southwestern<br />

<strong>Saskatchewan</strong>, you’re never very far<br />

from the roots of the people and the<br />

history of the area. The Swift Current<br />

Museum showcases a 9,000 year<br />

history of the southwest.<br />

Newly located in a historic<br />

schoolhouse, the F.T. Hill Museum in<br />

Riverhurst has a fine arrray of pioneer<br />

and aboriginal artifacts, plus a<br />

complete collection of <strong>Saskatchewan</strong><br />

license plates! And the Great Sandhills<br />

Museum in Sceptre invites you to take<br />

a stroll back in time down its wooden<br />

boardwalks.<br />

The Art Gallery of Swift Current is both a<br />

museum with a collection of fine art,<br />

and the cultural centerpiece of the<br />

community, showcasing a variety of art<br />

forms including literary, film, music and<br />

dance.<br />

Near the Estuary Ferry, north of the<br />

community of Leader, you’ll find<br />

Sagebrush Studios & Art Galleries. From<br />

the May long weekend to the end of<br />

September, visitors are welcome, by<br />

chance or by appointment, to see<br />

unique oil paintings and clay works,<br />

displayed in two restored church<br />

galleries.<br />

The culinary arts are also wellrepresented<br />

in the Great Sandhills/Lake<br />
