Kipling<br />
“Preserving our past, aspiring<br />
ipling was named for the great English author,<br />
“KRudyard Kipling. The town was born of the great<br />
migration of people from Europe and North America at the<br />
turn of the century. The Canadian West offered free land. The<br />
railways transported settlers coming in and products going<br />
out. Settlers from many lands came together to build homes<br />
and to form communities. Kipling became a trading centre<br />
and a community when a mix of British, German, Hungarian,<br />
and Scandinavian pioneers settled, built homes, schools,<br />
churches, and worked together.<br />
Kipling’s history is typical of many <strong>Saskatchewan</strong> local<br />
histories. But each history is different, although the<br />
environment, the hardships, and the challenges are much<br />
alike. Kipling’s history is unique because so many major<br />
strains, people from many different nations, came together,<br />
accepted one another, worked together and built a thriving<br />

Kipling was incorporated September 11, 1909 and attained<br />
town status on January 1, 1954. According to the health<br />
region statistics, Kipling’s population covered by<br />
<strong>Saskatchewan</strong> Health Care in June 2010 was 1,236. Kipling<br />
also supports a sizeable trading area. The Town of Kipling is<br />
a 1½ hour drive from the cities of Yorkton, Regina, Estevan<br />
and Weyburn, located in the Rural Municipality of Kingsley<br />
which borders with the RMs of Hazelwood, Silverwood, and<br />
Chester.<br />
Kipling is based on an agricultural economy of grain,<br />
livestock and mixed farms, as well as an ever-increasingly<br />
strong oil exploration and service sector. The livestock<br />
industry boasts several large hog operations, which includes<br />
two of the world’s leading companies conducting research<br />
on swine genetics. Kipling has also become the centre for<br />
health care and youth education in the area.<br />
Golf Course<br />
The watered greens and fairways make the Kingswood Golf<br />
Course a lush playable surface. Reasonably priced at $12 for<br />
9-holes or $21 for 18-holes, the par 35 (men) and 36 (ladies)<br />
challenges golfers with abundant water hazards, hidden<br />
holes and plenty of trees. Power carts are available for rent<br />
and there are no booking requirements. For special golfing<br />
packages and rates, please call the clubhouse at (306) 736-<br />
8220 mid-May until mid-October or Kipling Recreation<br />
Programmer at (306) 736-8440 in the off season.<br />
Swimming Pool<br />
From June to August, the Kipling and District Swimming Pool<br />
staff offer lessons for Red Cross and diving, scuba diving<br />
clinics, aquasize. A variety of pool parties, and many other<br />
activities are also offered. Certified lifeguards supervise all<br />
swimming activities. For pool hours and events, call (306)<br />

Kipling Arena<br />
Our arena season runs from November to mid–march, with<br />
all levels of minor hockey, three Adult Rec. Hockey teams, a<br />
figure skating club, and a very active curling club. For more<br />
information on tournaments, regular season game<br />
schedules, figure skating, or curling bonspiels, call our<br />
Recreation Programmer Susan Hengen at (306) 736-8440.<br />
Campgrounds<br />
Stay at our modern, fully serviced campground, with 37 sites<br />
(both full service and tenting sites available) located in an<br />
urban park. The sites are centrally located, adjacent to the<br />
heated outdoor swimming pool and the 9-hole grass green<br />
at Kingswood Golf Course. Other recreational facilities and<br />
all commercial and retail services are within a kilometer.<br />
