Qu’Appelle Valley
Many things about Saskatchewan
are often a big surprise to
travelers who come from “away” to visit
us for the first time -- they don’t expect
this prairie province to have more than
100,000 lakes, magnificent forests
or respectable ranges of hills with
the highest point between the Rocky
Mountains and Labrador.
There are other unexpected things
as well, especially in the south! Our
plains are often thought of as being
flat, unbroken stretches of prairie with
nothing to distract the traveler from
keeping right on toward the horizon!
That idea comes to a screeching halt
when the weary wayfarer discovers
the Qu’Appelle Valley, stretched
seductively out from east to west
across the lower part of the province.
It’s one of the most attractive and
most popular playgrounds you’ll find
anywhere, dotted with lakes and
sheltered by treed hills both summer
and winter. The Qu’Appelle River
system is one of the major continental
waterways that served as a highway
and corridor into the Great Plains and
today still attracts travelers from near
and far.
Whatever the time of year, there are
recreation opportunities galore for
families or individual vacationers
looking for rest and relaxation -- or for
excitement and enjoyment! During
summers in the Qu’Appelle Valley,
Explore Sports is dedicated to helping
everyone enjoy kiteboarding and stand
up paddling safely with a maximum
of fun. You can also delight in hiking,
golfing, swimming and other water
sports.
For recreational activities you may not
have tried before, visit Legends Are
Made At Katepwa near Indian Head on
the south shore of Katepwa Lake -- this
eco-friendly company rents canoes,
kayaks and pedal boats for enjoyable
exercise on the water.
In late summer and autumn, Pumpkin
Hollow Corn Maze, Family Farm & Fall
Festival in Lumsden has “Memories in
the Making” with multiple corn mazes,
a Hay Bale Slide, Saskatchewan’s only
Jumping Pillow, and a one-of-a-kind
annual Halloween party, among many
other attractions.
Ravine Adventures in Abernethy
provides year-round adventure
excitement, including a 10 foot bubble
ball, mud pit, and pedal go-karts in
the summer. In the winter, try snow
