Wood Mountain Lakota First<br />

Nation, located southwest of Wood<br />

Mountain village, is the only registered<br />

Lakota Sioux Band in Canada. Come<br />

and join the descendants of Sitting<br />

Bull’s Band at the Annual Pow-wow to<br />

be held the end of July. Come visit our<br />

new cultural centre.<br />

Cheer the cowboys as they spur the<br />

broncs and buck the bulls out of the<br />

chutes. Join the crowd in the grandstand<br />

shaded by boughs of aspen.<br />

Wood Mountain Post Provincial<br />

Historic Park was established at an<br />

existing Boundary Commission Depot<br />

in 1874. After the Battle of Little Big<br />

Horn in 1876, almost 5,000 Sioux took<br />

refuge in Canada until 1881. Exhibits<br />

show how the North West Mounted<br />

Police established law and order. Visit<br />

the two reconstructed buildings and talk<br />
