Guinness World Record
“Largest Paper Clip”
In 2006, Kipling made national headlines for its trade in the
“One Red Paperclip Story”, and is now home to the famous
house at 503 Main Street and the Guinness World Records
Largest Paperclip. Located in Bell Park on 6th Avenue, the
giant red paperclip stands 15’2” tall, 3’2” wide and weighs a
whopping 3,043 lbs. It was built by Ardel Steel in Regina,
Saskatchewan.
503 Main Street
In 2006, Kipling traded a house on Main Street to Kyle
Macdonald (“The Paperclip Guy”), in exchange for a movie
role. Much has happened to Kipling as a result. An
entrepreneurial mother-daughter team opened the “Paperclip
House” as a quaint restaurant now known as the Paperclip
Cottage, which is open to the travelling public. They are
cooking homemade goodness into all of their menu items,
which includes coffees and baked goods. The Cottage is
also the towns information center offering souvenirs of
Kipling and Saskatchewan. They also display works by local
artisans..
Downtown Saturday Night
In honor of our town centennial, a mural from days gone by
was painted by Janet Blackstock and Sharon Armstrong to
capture a moment of our past forever. The mural is located
on the side of Balfour’s Drug Store.
Old Bekevar Presbyterian Church
The twin-speared church in Debrecen, Hungary influenced
the style of the Old Bekevar Church. Built largely with
volunteer labour, the cost of construction was $8,000. Today
the century old church has been fully restored. For tours of
the church, contact Garnet Smalley at (306) 224-2006.
Museum
The Kipling and District Historical Society Museum, located
at 4th Street and Centennial, is open from 2-4pm on
weekends during July and August. Development of this
project, which began in the 1970’s, is ongoing. The
Museum’s main building, the restored Pipestone School,
Ovans’ House, and Edenland Church are some of the main
features. You can also visit the blacksmith shop, service
station, dental office and Dalzell Elevator engine, or stop by
the Inchkeith Women’s Institute and Royal Canadian Legion
rooms.
CNR Station
The original Kipling CNR Station with the unique
‘Kashabowie’ design was built in 1908 at a cost of $8,274. In
1993, the station was designated as a Municipal Heritage
Property, and is still being used today.
