A characteristic <strong>of</strong> its strain under loading, established by<br />

multiple experiments <strong>of</strong> various scientists, is important in evaluating<br />

the reduction in rigidity <strong>of</strong> a perforated plate. This characteristic<br />

is the fact that the shape <strong>of</strong> the deflection in a loaded perforated<br />

plate is similar to the shape <strong>of</strong> a deflection in a solid plate.<br />

Figure 2.57 illustrates the bend curves for solid <strong>and</strong> perforated<br />

plates under identical loading. In order to ensure identical<br />

loading on a plate, a pliable field insert is used.<br />
