High-power unfolding conical radiators<br />

A conical radiator (Fig. 4.5) folds along collector 1 located<br />

perpendicularly to the axis <strong>of</strong> symmetry <strong>of</strong> the, radiator. <strong>The</strong><br />

diagram shows the flow <strong>of</strong> the working medium along pipes 2 connected<br />

by connecting pieces 3.<br />

<strong>The</strong> advantages <strong>of</strong> this radiat•r are the small launching size,<br />

the almost complete use<br />

<strong>of</strong> the surface for radiation, <strong>and</strong> the good<br />

positioning <strong>of</strong> the radiator relative to the shade screen <strong>of</strong> the<br />

reactor. We should note only the somewhat complex design <strong>of</strong> the<br />

radiator, as a whole.<br />

<strong>The</strong> diagram (Fig. 4.6) gives an example <strong>of</strong> such a radiator.<br />

Heat removal is accomplished by fin 1, made <strong>of</strong> aluminum <strong>and</strong> protected<br />

from sublimation in vacuum by a. special coating. Heat passes to<br />

the radiator along a brass stub 2, soldered to the cold end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

thermoelectric generator 3.<br />

Such a design is applicable for radioactive isotopic sources.<br />
