COMMUNICATION<br />
SATELITTE WAS LAUNCHED<br />
Azerbaijan’s first telecommunication<br />
satellite Azersat/Africasat-1 was<br />
launched by the Arianespace Ariane<br />
5 ECA spacecraft on February 7. The<br />
satellite was manufactured by American<br />
Orbital Sciences Corporation and<br />
launched by the French Arianespace.<br />
Azerbaijan became the 11th country in<br />
the world who owns a satellite.<br />
February 14<br />
GREECE, ALBANIA AND ITALY<br />
TAP AGREEMENT<br />
Greece, Albania and Italy governments<br />
signed an agreement for the operation<br />
and construction of the TAP project.<br />
With the total length of 800 km,<br />
105 km of the pipeline will connect<br />
Albanian and Italian coasts under the<br />
Adriatic Sea. Greece is expected to<br />
invest $ 1.5 billion to the pipeline. The<br />
project will provide direct and indirect<br />
employment to thousands of people.<br />

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS<br />
HELD IN ARMENIA<br />
In the presidential elections held<br />
on February 18, Serzh Sargsyan was<br />
re-elected by the 58.6 percent of the<br />
votes for the second time. A total of six<br />
different candidates competed in elections;<br />
only 60 percent of voters went<br />
to the polls, which made the election<br />
dim in terms of participation. Another<br />
ambitious candidate was the former<br />
Foreign Minister Raffi Hovhannisyan<br />
who was the second on the run with<br />
36.7 percent.<br />

HISTORICAL DAY FOR PETKIM<br />
CONTAINER PORT<br />
PETKİM subsidiary Petlim and Dutch company APM<br />
Terminals signed an agreement with APMT BV and APM<br />
Terminals for the establishment of a container port facility in<br />
the Petkim Port.<br />
The agreement was signed by CEO of State Oil Company of<br />
Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Board Member of Petkim Kenan Yavuz<br />
and First Vice President of SOCAR Samir Kerimli on behalf of<br />
Petlim and Petkim, and Theo Dersigni on behalf of APM Terminals and<br />
APMT BV. Pre-agreement was signed on February <strong>13</strong>, 20<strong>13</strong>.<br />
The project is regarded as an important step towards becoming<br />
Turkey’s largest port complex, and it will be the first dock suitable for<br />
container ships with a capacity of 11,000 TEU. Construction investments<br />
