THE PROJECT TO REVIVE THE HISTORICAL<br />

SILK ROAD<br />

President Abdullah Gül represented Turkey in the Third<br />

Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States<br />

which was held in Gabala on August 15-16. Hosted by President<br />

of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev, Turkic leaders had bilateral<br />

meetings, and President Abdullah Gül came together with<br />

his counterpart İlham Aliyev and Kyrgyz President Almazbek<br />

Atambayev. During these sincere meetings, the leaders<br />

expressed their satisfaction about of the development of their<br />

relations. Gül stated that “We have taken significant decisions<br />

on realizing the solidarity and cooperation projects as well as<br />

joint projects among Turkic Republics and strengthening our<br />

cultural cooperation. We have made progress to a great extent.<br />

We are very pleased in this regard.” “Transportation” was the<br />

theme and main agenda of the summit. The importance of<br />

the “Joint Cooperation Protocol on Developing the Transportation”<br />

previously signed by the Ministers of Transportation<br />

of member states and the “Memorandum of Understanding<br />

on Cooperation and Establishing a Sister Seaport Relation<br />

Among the Ports of Baku, Aktau, Samsun” was emphasized<br />

Caspian Strategy Institute (HASEN) provided training<br />

for the participants within the program.<br />

during the program. As part of the Summer School, participants visited<br />

the Ministry of Transportation, Marine and Communication, Ministry of<br />

Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, TİKA, Ministry of Energy and<br />

Natural Resources and Grand National Assembly of Turkey in Ankara.<br />

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary Fatih Ceylan, TOBB UND<br />

General Director Selçuk Yılmaz, and Dr. Taleh Ziyadov from the Cambridge<br />

University participated to the first session of the program. Subjects such as<br />

regional transportation networks, transportation costs, regional cooperation<br />

and alternative routes were discussed during the session.<br />
