THE PROJECT TO REVIVE THE HISTORICAL
SILK ROAD
President Abdullah Gül represented Turkey in the Third
Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States
which was held in Gabala on August 15-16. Hosted by President
of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev, Turkic leaders had bilateral
meetings, and President Abdullah Gül came together with
his counterpart İlham Aliyev and Kyrgyz President Almazbek
Atambayev. During these sincere meetings, the leaders
expressed their satisfaction about of the development of their
relations. Gül stated that “We have taken significant decisions
on realizing the solidarity and cooperation projects as well as
joint projects among Turkic Republics and strengthening our
cultural cooperation. We have made progress to a great extent.
We are very pleased in this regard.” “Transportation” was the
theme and main agenda of the summit. The importance of
the “Joint Cooperation Protocol on Developing the Transportation”
previously signed by the Ministers of Transportation
of member states and the “Memorandum of Understanding
on Cooperation and Establishing a Sister Seaport Relation
Among the Ports of Baku, Aktau, Samsun” was emphasized
once again during the meetings.

Caspian Strategy Institute (HASEN) provided training
for the participants within the program.

International Projects Department Project Manager Ali Karakaya gave speeches
during the program. As part of the Summer School, participants visited
the Ministry of Transportation, Marine and Communication, Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, TİKA, Ministry of Energy and
Natural Resources and Grand National Assembly of Turkey in Ankara.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary Fatih Ceylan, TOBB UND
General Director Selçuk Yılmaz, and Dr. Taleh Ziyadov from the Cambridge
University participated to the first session of the program. Subjects such as
regional transportation networks, transportation costs, regional cooperation
and alternative routes were discussed during the session.
