ROUNDTABLE MEETING
BETWEEN HASEN AND
BROOKINGS
The roundtable meeting on “The
Importance of the Southern Gas
Corridor for European Energy
Security” was held on September 27
between HASEN and the Brookings
Institution which is located in
Washington. HASEN experts Efgan
Niftiyev and Dr. İbrahim Palaz gave a
speech during the meeting and drew
attention to the increasing natural gas
demand of European countries and
also emphasized that the Southern Gas
Corridor is highly important for both
Caspian Region and Europe and it is
the most reliable source in terms of
ensuring energy security in Europe.
AGREEMENT WAS REACHED
ON THE SHAH DENIZ 2
PROJECT
It was decided that the Shah Deniz 2 gas
will be transported to Turkey in 2018
and then to Europe in 2019 with the
agreement signed by Bulgargas, DEPA,
Shell, Gas Natural Fenosa, E.ON, Gaz de
France, Hera, Enel, and Axpo companies
for a period of 25 years. The President
of SOCAR Rövnag Abdullayev stated in
his speech at the signing ceremony “In
the second phase of Shah Deniz gas field,
the income amount of the agreements on
the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe
will be approximately USD 200 billion.
This agreement will give the opportunity
of supplying 10 billion cubic meters
annually to Europe. And this will happen
in 2019. The gas will be delivered to
Turkey in 2018 within the framework of
the Shah Deniz 2 project.”

Education, Culture and Solidarity
Association (AzeDer) was held in
İstanbul Grand Tarabya Hotel.
With the aim of helping Azerbaijani
students improve themselves and
make contributions to Azerbaijan, the
association was founded in Turkey
where nearly 7 thousand students
receive education.

Energy agenda of Caspian was
discussed in New York at the Second
Caspian Forum.
Strategy Institute Haldun Yavaş, SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov,
Shah Deniz Consortium Vice President Alasdair Cook, Minister of Foreign
Affairs of Albania Ditmir Bushati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia
Herzegovina Zlatko Lagumdzija, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Croatia Vesna Pusic, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Macedonia Nikola Poposki addressed speeches in the Forum which was
held in Waldorf Astoria, one of the most prestigious hotels in New York.
Main discussion topics in the Caspian Forum was the Trans Anatolian
Natural Gas Pipeline Project which is described as a milestone in Eurasian
energy history, and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline Project which is regarded
as a channel to receive the Shah Deniz gas from the Turkish-Greek border
and deliver it to Europe. The main theme of the Caspian Forum New York
was “European Energy Security and the Southern Gas Corridor”. During
the panel, the opportunities provided by the Southern Gas Corridor for
Caucasia, Anatolia, Balkans, and Europe were stressed out.
