BROOKINGS<br />
The roundtable meeting on “The<br />
Importance of the Southern Gas<br />
Corridor for European Energy<br />
Security” was held on September 27<br />
between HASEN and the Brookings<br />
Institution which is located in<br />
Washington. HASEN experts Efgan<br />
Niftiyev and Dr. İbrahim Palaz gave a<br />
speech during the meeting and drew<br />
attention to the increasing natural gas<br />
demand of European countries and<br />
also emphasized that the Southern Gas<br />
Corridor is highly important for both<br />
Caspian Region and Europe and it is<br />
the most reliable source in terms of<br />
ensuring energy security in Europe.<br />
AGREEMENT WAS REACHED<br />
ON THE SHAH DENIZ 2<br />
PROJECT<br />
It was decided that the Shah Deniz 2 gas<br />
will be transported to Turkey in 2018<br />
and then to Europe in 2019 with the<br />
agreement signed by Bulgargas, DEPA,<br />
Shell, Gas Natural Fenosa, E.ON, Gaz de<br />
France, Hera, Enel, and Axpo companies<br />
for a period of 25 years. The President<br />
of SOCAR Rövnag Abdullayev stated in<br />
his speech at the signing ceremony “In<br />
the second phase of Shah Deniz gas field,<br />
the income amount of the agreements on<br />
the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe<br />
will be approximately USD 200 billion.<br />
This agreement will give the opportunity<br />
of supplying 10 billion cubic meters<br />
annually to Europe. And this will happen<br />
in 2019. The gas will be delivered to<br />
Turkey in 2018 within the framework of<br />
the Shah Deniz 2 project.”<br />

The opening meeting of the Azerbaijani<br />
Education, Culture and Solidarity<br />
Association (AzeDer) was held in<br />
İstanbul Grand Tarabya Hotel.<br />
With the aim of helping Azerbaijani<br />
students improve themselves and<br />
make contributions to Azerbaijan, the<br />
association was founded in Turkey<br />
where nearly 7 thousand students<br />
receive education.<br />

Energy agenda of Caspian was<br />
discussed in New York at the Second<br />
Caspian Forum.<br />
Strategy Institute Haldun Yavaş, SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov,<br />
Shah Deniz Consortium Vice President Alasdair Cook, Minister of Foreign<br />
Affairs of Albania Ditmir Bushati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia<br />
Herzegovina Zlatko Lagumdzija, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of<br />
Foreign Affairs of Croatia Vesna Pusic, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of<br />
Macedonia Nikola Poposki addressed speeches in the Forum which was<br />
held in Waldorf Astoria, one of the most prestigious hotels in New York.<br />
Main discussion topics in the Caspian Forum was the Trans Anatolian<br />
Natural Gas Pipeline Project which is described as a milestone in Eurasian<br />
energy history, and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline Project which is regarded<br />
as a channel to receive the Shah Deniz gas from the Turkish-Greek border<br />
and deliver it to Europe. The main theme of the Caspian Forum New York<br />
was “European Energy Security and the Southern Gas Corridor”. During<br />
the panel, the opportunities provided by the Southern Gas Corridor for<br />
Caucasia, Anatolia, Balkans, and Europe were stressed out.<br />
