CASPIAN<br />
President Gül and his wife Mrs. Hayrünnisa Gül<br />
made a visit to Turkmenistan at the invitation of<br />
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov<br />
on May 29-31.<br />
Vice President of the Council of Ministers of<br />
Turkmenistan and the Foreign Minister Rashid<br />
Meredov welcomed President Gül at the<br />
Saparmurat Turkmenbashi Airport, and then the delegation<br />
went to the Ruhiyet Pavilion. The Guard of Honor paraded<br />
for both leaders, and the President Berdimuhamedov<br />
presented the State Medal of Honor to the President Gül in<br />
the Ruhiyet Pavilion. During his speech at the ceremony,<br />
President Gül stated that he was grateful for the<br />

CHINA’S UNCONDITIONAL<br />
SUPPORT TO AZERBAIJAN<br />
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed<br />
a decree on May 3 and approved<br />
the agreement on the People’s Republic<br />
of China’s unconditional military<br />
assistance to Azerbaijan, which was<br />
signed in Beijing on January 21. The<br />
decree sets out that the Ministry of Defense<br />
is in charge of ensuring the implementation<br />
of the agreement and the<br />
Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge<br />
of informing the People’s Republic of<br />
China that the internal procedures are<br />
being followed in this regard.<br />

GIANT ENERGY INVESTMENT IN KYRGYZSTAN<br />
President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the intergovernmental<br />
cooperation agreement on the construction of new hydroelectric<br />
power plants (HES) in Kyrgyzstan with the support of<br />
Russia. Russian press presented the news about the agreement<br />
as “Support to the construction of new hydroelectric power<br />
plants by Putin”. In line with the agreement that Putin signed,<br />
it is planned to construct the dams of Kambarata -1, on the<br />
upper parts of Narın River Akbulunk, Narın HES-1, Narın<br />
HES-2 and Narın HES -3 within the borders of Kyrgyzstan.<br />
Kambarata-1 hydroelectric power plant to be constructed by<br />
Kyrgyzstan government on the Narın River feeding the Sırdeya<br />
river of Kyrgyzstan shall generate annually 6 billion 300 million<br />
cubic kw/h electricity. The dam is expected to accumulate 4<br />
billion 600 million cubic meters of water in its basin, which will<br />
cost about USD 2 billion 200 million.<br />
