Uie three film trap muutiting screws, and
next replaee the light shield. The Job has
been completed.
It IS of paramount importance the fire
shutter assembly should be set correctly in
order for it to function smoothly. To set
the height of the fire shutter, loosen set
screw i
iKiK. 2. No. 12 at the top of the governor
on the vertical shaft. This will allow
the governor to be raised or lowered and
also will raise or lower the fire shutter.
When the proper shutter height has been
obtained, by making the above adjustment,
the set screw should be firmly tightened
and no further adjustment will be needed
for a long time. The height of the shutter
should be adjusted so that it does not come
into the light beam with the projector
running and yet not high enough to touch
the top of the heat shield, of course.
MECHANISM THOROUGHLY
TESTED
Very thoroughly, each Century projector
mechanism has been factory-tested and
adjusted for perfect operation. The CC
model, double shutter, has been projectiontested
and timed before leaving the factory.
II It is desired to check timing or to reset
the shutters again idue to being out of time
from parts replacement! , the writer of this
department will be happy to send you complete
instructions on correct procedure in
tuning double shu^ers. Space will not
permit us, at this writing, to present complete
instructions.
The maintenance of the double shutter
unit is simply placing a drop or two of oil in
oil cup
I
Fig. 1, No. 1 1 once a day. No additional
lubrication will be necessary all day.
NOTE— Kerosene or solvent should not
be used for cleaning Century mechanism
ball bearings. Century projector oil may be
used for cleaning purposes but do riot soak
ball bearings in oil. Any of the other parts
may be cleaned with kerosene, but keep
the fluid off the ball bearings.
MINIMUM CARE
REQUIRED
COMMENTS—The Century projector
very rugged in construction and requires
only a minimiun of care and adjustment,
and it will operate, with good care, many
years without any parts replacement indicated.
We have found, in the field, the
Century mechanism giving flawless screen
performance. The projector is of unit construction,
and thus it is possible to replace
any unit quickly and easily without any
special tools. By following the instructions
in this article, it is impossible to reassemble
the mechanism incorrectly
<
the two
illustrations clearly show all the parts and
units 1. In case of any rare problem, or
any adjustment not covered in this article.
the writer will be glad to assist you.
The Century company has a very interesting
development which has been adopted
in the intermittents used with the horizontal
VistaVision double-frame, pull down
mechanisms. This movement operates in
a vertical position. Ordinary oil with vent
holes, etc., would leak and entirely run out.
To overcome this problem. Century selected
a new lubricant which Is not a
mineral and one which has no change
Out in the field we hove run into ieyeial complainti
from exhibitors that they could not iccure a steady
picture nor a sharp focus when using CinemaScope
lens on either a regular or Super Simplex or f-7.
Due to the length and weight of this lens, ordinary
lens mounts will not do os they will not hold (he
