April 25/2013 "Firefighters had to be extra careful fighting a fire near Turk Hill Road in Fairport on Monday morning. News10NBC is told molten salt started leaking out of a furnace at the Jasco Heat Treatment Plant around midnight. Firefighters say maintenance workers noticed the leak which caused items to catch on fire. Fairport Fire Chief Mike Gropp says they couldn't use water to put out the fire. "It's a non-water building. We have to use dry powder or chemicals. Water reacts with molten salt in a negative manner." Firefighters say the fire did not cause significant damage to the building and no one was hurt." The first Furnace is a G-M Model HVF 301-XXLB (2-Bar) having a Free Work Area of 36” Wide x 30” High x 96” Long whereas the 2nd Furnace is G-M Model HVF 301-B (2-Bar) with dual Door arrangement having a Free Work Area of 36” Wide x 30” High x 48” Long. The Dual Door arrangement reduces Furnace down time for loading and unloading by utilizing Front Door for loading a new load whereas the Rear Door is utilized for removal of the sintered load. Each system is equipped with “state-of-the-art” automatic binder-removal features via a series of wax traps. The larger Furnace is equipped with dual pumping system with isolation valves to provide maintenance without shutting down the Furnace to provide highest level of uptime. There are multiple vacuum evacuation ports and partial gas flow arrangement to achieve high product yield. Both Furnaces are equipped with GMVAC1 WONDERWARE based software to provide maximum process flexibilities and capabilities including real-time data acquisition and storing complete process history." The manufacturer will use the EKOHEAT to preheat gears so they expand to enable a shaft to be inserted into each one. As the gears cool, they "shrink" back to size, therefore securing the shafts inside the gears. (April, 2013) Joy Global in Franklin, Pennsylvania has added a new AFC-Holcroft automated batch integral quench system. The order consists of four 36-48-36 UBQ (Universal Batch Quench) furnaces with atmosphere top cool chambers, eight UBT temper furnaces, a UBW washer, an automatic bar car, multi-position load and unload tables with scissors lifts and cooling capabilities, stationary tables, tray rollover table, and ProcessMaster Controls system. The system will be fully automated, with each load managed/tracked as it is automatically processed thru the UBQ line, with complete load data reporting for all process data from entry until discharge. The ProcessMaster Controls system is fully integrated with Joy Global's existing plant wide production system. The customer will be using the equipment for normalizing, quenching and tempering, carburizing and hardening. The modularity of the UBQ system allows for flexibility in processing and production volumes. The equipment was installed and commissioned in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
