In India we ran across something which rather surprised us, Therelek Engineers Private Limited a commercial heat treater in Bangalore claims to be the first in the country to have achieved NADCAP and that it is the ONLY commercial that is NADCAP certified. This was not our impression but perhaps we are mistaken. Going to Germany we understand that Energy Optimization company Dibalog has hired a customer service engineer to handle their sales in North America. He is a fellow by the name of Trent Boehner and he can be reached at t.boehner@dibalog.com We ran across a fellow in the Netherlands who has a blog in which he analyzes commercial heat treats Bodycote and Aalberts Industries http://somanalystblog.blogspot.nl/2013/02/speculative-piecepotential-us-heat.html. Kind of interesting and it is easy to see that he follows "The Monty". In the US we have a few interesting items. First we see that GE has acquired Lufkin Industries in Lufkin, TX. It's worth mentioning because Lufkin (who amongst other things produces large gears) has a large in house heat treating department which we have profiled in the past. In California Bodycote is installing a new 20' X 8' X 5' furnace capable of handling 30,000 pound loads at 2250F. This will be intended to serve the aerospace and engine markets. Nitrex is hosting another of their Nitriding Seminars this one in Las Vegas, NV. "Nitrex Metal Inc. is pleased to announce the return of Nitriding Symposium to Las Vegas, USA this November. Already in its 3rd edition, Nitriding Symposium is a one of a kind event devoted exclusively to controlled nitriding and nitrocarburizing, relying on academic researchers and industry professionals to deliver the latest technologies and developments in the field. And to round things out we conclude this Monday Morning Briefing by returning to a news item from the past week. American Brazing division of Paulo Products is an enormous operation which will shortly be installing their 26th vacuum furnace in their 150,000 square foot building just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. We had wondered whether this plant has the largest installed base of vacuum furnaces in a commercial heat treat in North America. It turns out not as you can see from the post below from Mr. Bill Jones of Solar Atmospheres. By the way there is one other in the US that might rival these two however they are so publicity shy that we dare not speak their name. "For one facility Solar Atmospheres, Souderton, Pa. will be hard to surpass. We have 28 vacuum furnaces on line up and running. By the end of this year we are adding 5 additional vacuum furnaces, currently on order. Two are smaller production furnaces for vacuum brazing, a production size 10 bar www.themonty.com
vacuum carburizing furnace, a 20 bar vacuum alloy hardening furnace, and an all metal mid size hot zone furnace for high vacuum processing of medical components like pacemaker implants. All of our original furnaces were built by Vacuum Furnace Systems Corp and the most recent furnaces since year 2000 built by our sister company Solar Manufacturing Inc. Also upcoming is a report and photos of several commercial and captive heat treats in Argentina and Italy with a close look at Nitrex in Las Vegas also in the mix. And within the next two weeks an updated list of the Largest Furnace Builders in North America-both vacuum and atmosphere. To give you a taste the photo below shows the assembly area of one of the companies on the list GM Enterprises in CA who also sent us a very interesting idea about the size of the company and their focus. Not sure which Bodycote plant this is for as it could be for one of 30 or 40. By the way notice a pattern here? SECO is becoming very "vocal" about their new orders which is a strategy we agree with.
