SECO/WARWICK Press Release. "Meadville, Pennsylvania–SECO/WARWICK
Corp. has received an order for an advanced new furnace that will provide improved
durability for stainless steel heat treating."This vacuum furnace will come with a
15-bar gas quenching system. The Super Expanite process improves the hardness
and corrosion resistance for stainless steel. It is not a coating, but rather a new
treatment process. SECO/WARWICK officials said they expect to have the
equipment in place by early summer of this year. April 10/2013
About SECO/WARWICK CO. The Vacuum Team offers vacuum heat treating
furnaces for hardening, tempering, annealing, solution heat treating, brazing,
sintering, carburizing, carbonitriding, high vacuum, CVD–graphitizing and
degassing. SECO/WARWICK has built some of the largest and technically advanced
vacuum furnaces in operation today, developing advanced technologies like
Universal HPQ (High Pressure Quench), PreNit® & FineCarb® LPC vacuum
carburizing, fully automated control systems and modeling software. Vacuum
furnace configurations are available for vertical, horizontal and elevator style
furnaces. Both cylindrical and rectangular hot zones with metallic or graphite
heating elements are available for both new and used equipment. Retech LLC
provides vacuum melting equipment. Visit http://www.secowarwick.com/
Gas vs.; Electricity. The decision as to whether to use natural gas as opposed to
electricity to heat furnaces comes down to two issues, availability and pricing.
Obviously if natural gas is not available there is no decision to be made which
means generally the decision comes down to relative cost. Certainly in most areas
of North America this is a "no brainer" natural gas is far cheaper than electricity and
the long term forecast is that the spread will only widen. One of the charts below
shows natural gas pricing over the years, the second electricity. We wouldn't have
to debate a second about which energy source to use. And while we are looking at
charts the furthest chart down shows nickel pricing and all we can say is all is quiet
on the nickel front. April 9/2013
