General Guidelines for Waterproofing Work<br />

For reference of contractor<br />

(<strong>No</strong>te:- The contractor is required to give detailed specification for each item of waterproofing work)<br />

1. Roof, slab and terrace:<br />

Providing average 112 millimetre thick cement based Indian waterproofing treatment with<br />

Brick Bat Coba beading by Keeping the treatment minimum 75 millimetre thick at the rain<br />

water pipe point and keeping the gradient not flatter than 1 in 100.<br />

(a)<br />

Cleaning the surface to the requirements.<br />

(b)<br />

Giving a coat of wash mixed with cement.<br />

(c)<br />

Providing 12 millimetre thick cement mortar bed with admixture of waterproofing compound to<br />

form a bed for brickbats. Special care shall be taken at the junction of parapet and terrace<br />

slab to ensure gaps, if any are properly sealed.<br />

(d)<br />

Pacing brickbats of varying size (average 80 millimetre thick) to proper slope and grouting<br />

their joints with chemical process in cement mortar with 2% of waterproofing compound.<br />

(e) Providing all around the terrace large waterproof watta (roundings) upto a height of 30<br />

centimetre PCC or as directed above the finished level of waterproofing treatment.<br />

(f) Finishing: Finishing the top surface with average 20mm thick layers of cement mortar 1:3<br />

dded with jute fibre at one kilogramme per bag, including finishing the surface smooth with<br />

cement slurry mixed with approved waterproofing compound, marking finished surface with<br />

false squares of 300mm x 300mm.<br />

(g)<br />

Curing: Curing shall be done for 14 days. Curing of tops surface shall be done by making<br />

base (wattas) with lean cement mortar to keep water standing on the surface.<br />

(h)<br />

Carrying out the test: The test shall be carried out by ponding method. Payment for the item<br />

shall be released only after results of pond test are satisfactory.<br />

2. Toilets:<br />

(a) Cleaning the surface to the departments requirements.<br />

(b) Giving a coat of wash mixed with cement.<br />

(c) Providing average 15 cm thick waterproofing treatment to the bottom of toilet floors.<br />

(d) Providing 20 mm to 25 mm thick cement mortar water proof treatment to the walls of toilets<br />

upto the height of 0.30 metre above the finished floor level.<br />
