The CPRC Director informs the Clinic Principal Investigator if a set <strong>of</strong><br />
fluorescein or corneal photographs is not gradable and conveys any specific<br />
recommendations on methods to improve photograph quality that the Reader<br />
may have noted in the file (Section 14.3 above). The Study patient is immediately<br />
rescheduled for an appointment within 14 days for repeat photography. The new<br />
exposed film is mailed to the CLEK Photography Reading <strong>Center</strong> on the same<br />
day as the repeat photography.<br />
14.5 Certification <strong>of</strong> CLEK Photography Reading <strong>Center</strong> Personnel<br />
14.5.1 Certification <strong>of</strong> Photograph Readers<br />
The CLEK Photography Reading <strong>Center</strong> must have certified Photograph<br />
Readers. Certification requirements for the CLEK Photography Readers are:<br />
(1) Attend training sessions conducted by the Director <strong>of</strong> the CLEK<br />
Photography Reading <strong>Center</strong> concerning the design <strong>of</strong> the CLEK Study, the<br />
methods for fluorescein photography, the methods <strong>of</strong> fluorescein photograph<br />
reading and documentation, the methods for corneal photography, and the<br />
methods <strong>of</strong> corneal photograph reading and documentation;<br />
(2) Study and know in detail the CLEK Operations Manual, especially<br />
Chapters 2, 10, 11, and 14, and the CLEK Photography Reading <strong>Center</strong><br />
Operations Manual;<br />
(3) Complete a written examination for the Photograph Reader;<br />
(4) Read 100 teaching slides (50 fluorescein, 50 cornea) as specified in the<br />
CLEK Photography Reading <strong>Center</strong> Operations Manual, under the direction <strong>of</strong><br />
the CPRC Director;<br />
(5) Independently and correctly read 20 apical touch fluorescein patterns<br />
and 20 apical clearance fluorescein patterns to the satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the CPRC<br />
Director;<br />
(6) Independently and correctly read photographs from 20 slightly scarred<br />
eyes and 20 nonscarred eyes to the satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the CPRC Director.<br />
Documentation <strong>of</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> each <strong>of</strong> these requirements is submitted<br />
to the Project Manager at the <strong>Coordinating</strong> <strong>Center</strong>. The CPRC Director and the<br />
<strong>Coordinating</strong> <strong>Center</strong> Director are responsible for recommending certification.<br />
After the training session and examination (steps 3 and 4 just above), provisional<br />
certification is awarded to the CLEK Photograph Reader. After satisfactory
