Forming in the ancient land, where is the trading gateway
to the regions in the country and internationally; Over
thousand years of development, Hai Phong have received
a large number of immigrants. The harmonic convergence
of residents from different regions have created an intertwined
cultural diversity, a vivid beauty and distinguished
human nature of the residents.
Hai Phong city is one of the locality where various types
of intangible folk arts and cultures with bold characters
of the Red River civilization are conserved. Vinh Bao is the
home of the art of water and dry puppetry, shadowed
puppetry (revolving lights); folk games such as sky
lanterns, clay crackers. Thuy Nguyen is one of the cradles
of the art of "Ca Tru" (Dong Mon village, Hoa Binh
commune) and "Dum" singing (Phuc Le, Pha Le, Lap Le).
Traditional Art of Hai Phong has been known for a long
time. In particular, Bao Ha sculpture and puppet making
village (Dong Minh commune), Duong Dong pottery village
(Minh Tan commune), My Dong copper casting village are
typical ones.
Hai Phong city has many traditional architectural structures
which represents talented artistic skills of the people
such as: Hang Kenh communal house, Kien Bai communal
house, Cung Chuc communal house, communal house -
pagoda Gia Loc, Nghe Temple; Cuu Dien shrine, Du Hang
pagoda, Van Ban pagoda, My Cu pagoda...
In another aspect, contemporary art and culture of the
city has also achieved outstanding accomplishments
which associated with the names of the artists in all
fields of art such as: Van Cao, Nguyen Hong (Literature),
Mai Trung Thu, Tran Van Can, Tran Dinh Tho (Fine Art),
Hoang Quy, Doan Chuan, Do Nhuan, Tran Chung (Music)...
