Lesson 7.2.1: Personalization components Accompanying guide for SPVC - not for distribution A personalization element stores a reference to a personalization rule or content spot generated by the Personalization application. Personalization can be used in different ways: To dynamically display lists of content based on a rule The Web Content resource collection is installed and configured for immediate use. This predefined collection allows you to write rules that select lists of content. You use a Personalization rule in a way similar to using the search criteria of a menu. For example, you can use a rule to display content based on the date entered in a date element in a content item. Only content items that match the date range specified in the rule will be retrieved. To personalize content for different users Personalization can recognize a specific user based on a profile or can determine characteristics of a user based on previous purchases, products or pages viewed, and so forth. Personalization then selects content that is appropriate for that profile.
