Be Inspired at Hunter Baillie Church<br />

Hunter Baillie Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cnr Johnston<br />

& Collins Streets<br />

Listed on the State Heritage Register, this sandstone, Neo-<br />

Gothic church, with its landmark spire, is the finest example<br />

of its type in Sydney. The majestic William Hill & Son organ<br />

was installed in 1892. The Church will be open 12pm -<br />

4pm. Organ recitals by Ralph Lane OAM 1pm, 2pm, 3pm.<br />

Afternoon Tea and Historical Display in 1886 Hall 12pm -<br />

4pm. Guided walk of neighbouring streets with Marghanita da<br />

Cruz, Editor of Annandale on the Web, at 3pm. More at www.<br />

donations for National Trust conservation appeal welcome.<br />

An annual event to remember the Dharawal people killed in<br />

the massacre of 17th of April, 1816. This event acknowledges<br />

the significant and continuing contribution made by the<br />

Dharawal people to this area. Their great resourcefulness and<br />

innovative adaptability has allowed them to survive against all<br />

odds. Their gift has been the beauty of the land around us.<br />

Wheelchair accessible, parking available. Please bring a hat<br />

and fold-up chair if it’s a hot day.<br />

and also to show off some historical material from Council’s<br />

Archives. Would hopefully have members from the Ashfield<br />

Historical Society involved as well, explaining what is held in<br />

their collection/s and how we support one another in assisting<br />

the public with their enquiries on family history & historical<br />

searches of their homes.<br />

Amazing Photographic Exhibition. Amazing story of the Cable<br />

Tramway construction for access to the Darling Street, Ferry<br />

Wharf. Early use of garbage waste disposal to generate<br />

electricity for local usage on the Balmain Peninsula. ‘Aussie’<br />

water bags and life jackets produced by E J Brett’s. The<br />

search for refrigeration by Thomas Mort. The exhibition will<br />

be open on Saturdays 7, 14, 21 and 28 April from 11.30<br />

Saving Ballast Point, Saving the Headland – Evening Talk<br />

Balmain Library, 370 Darling Street<br />

Amazing Stories: Evening talk with key activist Roger Parkes,<br />

Helen Styles, Fergus Fricke and June Lunsman who along with<br />

many other groups saved Ballast Point from development on<br />

the Birchgrove Peninsula. Ballast Point is now a thoughtfully<br />

landscaped open park space, echoing it’s industrial heritage<br />

with sculptural reminders of the former Caltex oil terminal<br />

which operated between 1928-1994. Come and hear about<br />

the amazing success of local activist groups along with<br />

Leichhardt Council in saving Ballast Point.<br />
