Sutherland Shire Spinners & Weavers will be demonstrating<br />

the craft of spinning yarn. Members will have an assortment<br />

of Spinning Wheels on display and tell the history of these<br />

machines, especially how innovation and invention of their<br />

design has changed throughout the years. Wheelchair access,<br />

parking & refreshments available.<br />

Bus and walking tours of the Crematorium and areas of<br />

historical interest. Free horse and carriage rides. Sutherland<br />

Medieval Regiment display on weaponry, armour - combat<br />

re-enactment shows 10.30am & 2pm. Meet Funeral Directors<br />

on site. Cemetery grave digging equipment and machinery<br />

display. Spinners and weavers demonstrating their art Pipe<br />

band entertainment. Free sausage sizzle and devonshire<br />

tea. Parking available. Wheelchair access and refreshments<br />

Come along to Customs House to see how our built<br />

environment has been shaped and planned over this time,<br />

with a series of lunch time talks featuring Ian Jack, Colleen<br />

Morris, Paul Ashton, Robert Freestone and Graham Jahn. An<br />

associated display will be at Customs House throughout April<br />

growing and changing. From the earliest human habitation to<br />

the present, the Dictionary is a treasure trove of documents,<br />

images, maps, sounds and film. Join Dictionary historians for<br />

a talk on what the Dictionary is and how to use it! After, join us<br />

for 30 minute hands-on workshops on using the Dictionary.<br />

Motorised mayhem - remaking Sydney’s streets for the<br />

modern world The advent of the motor car dramatically<br />

changed Sydney’s urban environment. Streets were widened<br />

and pedestrians relegated to narrow pavements. Blockboys<br />

and bootblacks made way for bowsers. Asphalt replaced<br />

woodblocks. Dr Lisa Murray, City Historian, will explore the<br />

impact of the motor car on the shape, life and culture of<br />

Sydney’s streets.<br />
