farming and viticulture by Singleton’s first mayor, Alexander<br />

Munro & he was also a storekeeper, teamster, butcher, shearer<br />

& hotel owner. His resourcefulness & innovative practices<br />

earned him gold medals at international wine shows & his<br />

varied commercial undertakings provided the funding for his<br />

many benevolent & philanthropic activities. The museum has<br />

an additional exhibit facility at the Singleton NAA Showground<br />

where the very large pieces of our collection of vintage farm<br />

machinery are stored.<br />

A photographic exhibition of 140 years of Singleton<br />

Agricultural shows, showcasing agricultural machinery,<br />

cars, house hold items and appliances, musical instruments<br />

and entertainment. Accompanied by amazing stories from<br />

history’s pages. Walking tours through the grounds and<br />

heritage buildings designed by famous Hunter architect, J.W.<br />

Pender. Morning tea and entertainment provided for a gold<br />

coin donation.<br />

Singleton: Old Munro Had a Farm<br />

Singleton Public Library, 8 - 10 Queen Street<br />

Singleton Public Library and Singleton Historical Society have<br />

partnered to present an exhibition featuring one of our most<br />

prominant and innovative pioneers, Alexander Munro. Munro<br />

who was Singleton’s first Mayor was also very well known<br />

as a farmer and highly respected vignernon. Our exhibtion<br />

features some of the early implements, farm machinery<br />

and other memorabilia showcasing this important part of<br />

Singleton’s heritage. The Library display is complemented by<br />

others at the Singleton Historical Society Museum and the<br />

Singleton Showground. Singleton Public Library hours 9am<br />

- 8pm Monday to Friday 9am to 12noon Saturday. Singleton<br />

Historical Society & Museum Inc. 10am to 1pm Tuesday.<br />

12noon to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.<br />
