Tulkiyan Heritage House, 707 Pacific Highway<br />

See Tulkiyan, Ku-ring-gai’s State Heritage listed house<br />

museum, complete with original contents. This 1913 Arts<br />

and Crafts property designed by BJ Waterhouse was home<br />

for eighty years to the Donaldson family, whose Scottish<br />

forebears migrated to nineteenth century Victoria. The<br />

younger Donaldson’s did not marry; together with their elderly<br />

live-in maid, they grew old in the family home, maintaining the<br />

original structure and furnishing style. The family story is told<br />

through reference to the large collection of retained personal<br />

artefacts. One day only. No additional date. Doors open 10am.<br />

The house tour takes about 1 hour and runs continuously.<br />

Last tour entry 3pm. No bookings taken. Limited access;<br />

patrons must be able to negotiate stairs.<br />

Haberfield: The First Planned Garden Suburb<br />

A major innovation in town-planning was the creation of<br />

the Garden Suburb. Haberfield was Australia’s first planned<br />

Garden Suburb “establishing a model for Australia’s suburban<br />

development in the 20th century” (Australian Heritage<br />

Commission, 1990). This walking tour will look at the first<br />

(1901) subdivision of Richard Stanton’s Haberfield Estate<br />

explaining the Garden Suburb concept. Three houses from<br />

Haberfield’s Early and Mid Federation periods will be open<br />

for inspection. Tour notes and afternoon tea will be provided.<br />
