Illustrated Talk on Palladio’s villas
Hunters Hill RSL Hall, cnr Ady and Alexandra Sts
Scott Carlin will speak on the villas of Andrea Palladio (1510-
1580) the ‘renaissance’ of a Classical Roman tradition based
on literary sources and study of ancient buildings, which
suited the ambitions of those who secured country estates
in Venice’s new land empire. Transposed to Britain by Inigo
Jones in the 1610s-20s and Lord Burlington a century later,
Palladianism was part of the architectural vocabulary of
Macquarie period architects such as Francis Greenway and
Henry Kitchen.
