A fabulous 4 hour tour around Parramatta’s beautiful historical<br />
buildings – both the well known and the not-so-well-known.<br />
And what better way to do it than by bicycle We pass more<br />
than 40 sites of historical significance, including Australia’s<br />
3 oldest buildings. Hear about Parramatta’s vital role in the<br />
survival of the European colony and of its colourful characters.<br />
The ride is about 20km, easy paced, with a mix of on-road<br />
and off-road. It includes several stops and commentary. The<br />
fee includes entry for a short tour of Old Government House.<br />
We finish with coffee in the Park Café. Own bike in working<br />
order, helmet, water and snacks are essential. Children must<br />
be accompanied by a parent or responsible carer.<br />

Lancers, Australia’s oldest surviving and most decorated<br />
regiment.<br />

Take a walk through Australia’s military history, from the Boer<br />
War to the SW Pacific in 1945, at Commonwealth Heritage<br />
Listed Lancer Barracks, a Governor Macquarie precinct. View<br />
items never previously on public display from the Museum’s<br />
heritage listed collection, including historic armoured<br />
vehicles. Military historians will bring to life the Lancers rich<br />
active service history with talks at 10am, noon and 2pm.<br />

but their presence still haunts the house. Explore this 212<br />
year old Georgian mansion by candlelight and hear strange<br />
tales from the site’s long history, revisit the scene of a tragic<br />
accident and witness places within the house where psychics<br />
and guides have had ghostly encounters. Reflect on your own<br />

Governor Phillip Walk<br />
Meet Parramatta Wharf at 9.30am<br />
Trace the footsteps of Governor Arthur Phillip taken on 24 April<br />
1788. On this day he discovered fertile land near fresh water<br />
at a place called by the local Aboriginal clan ‘Burramatta’.<br />
This led soon after to the creation of a settlement. This<br />
significant walk, recently opened by the Premier, is to be led<br />
by ‘Governor Phillip’ and guides and will proceed along the<br />
Parramatta River through world heritage-listed Parramatta<br />
Park to the head of the River, where the Governor camped.<br />
Dress to the period. Walkers are encouraged to bring water,<br />
a hat, sunscreen and use public transport. Note: the nearest<br />
parking available to the head of the River is the northern part<br />
of Parramatta Park near the Wisteria Garden.<br />
