The Life and Times of Ben Turner of Clover Hill<br />

Tongarra Museum, Russell Street, Albion Park<br />

An historic exhibition will be held at Tongarra Museum<br />

featuring the life of Benjamin Horace Turner; aviator, artist,<br />

poet, world record parachutist and manufacturer of ‘Scamp’<br />

swimsuits, Australia. Ben lived for many years at Clover Hill,<br />

Macquarie Pass, where he worked on building his tudor style<br />

manor house, built on the side of huge natural rock formations<br />

on his property. An Art Prize encouraging artists to produce<br />

works based on the life of Ben Turner will be launched in<br />

Shellharbour City during the National Trust Heritage Festival.<br />

A day for the whole family showcasing rural pursuits of the 19th<br />

century, during the time of the great, Australian born explorer<br />

Hamilton Hume at his retirement home “Cooma Cottage”.<br />

Including blacksmithing, horse shoeing, cow milking, whip<br />

cracking, spinning, preserving fruit, blade shearing, horse<br />

& cart rides, poetry recitals, post & rail fencing. Olden days<br />

children’s games all day. Competition between local service<br />

groups eg. sheaf tossing, wool bale rolling. Food provided<br />

by local charities, drinks available. Disabled parking close<br />

by, plants & olive oil for sale. Wine tasting. Please dress in<br />

costume if possible. Tours of house available.<br />

Walking Tours will be on Sunday, 29 April 2011 from 1pm to<br />

3pm (on the hour). Three family members will talk on their<br />

descendents who are buried in the Historic Berkeley Pioneer<br />

Cemetery which dates back to 1862. Seating, refreshments<br />

and on street parking are available. When booking, please<br />

mention if wheelchair access is required via gate access.<br />
