Pacific Hwy intersection Smiths Creek Rd, Kumbatine<br />

NaionalPark - isolated site requires 4WD<br />

Walking tour approx 2.5km around the remains of Australia’s<br />

earliest surviving Lime Kilns circa 1830’s. A fascinating story<br />

of early colonial innnovation and technology. Bring a picnic<br />

lunch, water bottle, wear sturdy boots, trousers and insect<br />

repellent. Limited transport available. This tour requires use<br />

of your own 4WD vehicle approx 25km return over former<br />

forestry roads. Road surface depends on weather conditions.<br />

Meet at intersection of Smiths Creek Road and Pacific Hwy,<br />

much loved poetry and it’s writer who lived in Kendall part of<br />

his creative life. He was Kendall’s first timber inspector when<br />

The Camden Head Pilot Station has an interesting and<br />

important heritage. An informative talk and tour of the Pilot<br />

Station and its surrounds will give visitors and insight into the<br />

day to day workings of the Pilot Station a century ago. It will<br />

also show its restoration and current activities. The tour will<br />

include the cottage and continue around the surrounds of the<br />

Pilot Station including the break wall and Pilot Beach.<br />

Moving with the Times: Lismore’s pioneer aviators<br />

Lismore Regional Museum, 165 Molesworth Street<br />

In 1916 the Mayor of Lismore asked the Postmaster General<br />

to consider establishing an aerial mail service in country<br />

Australia. Four years later, on 26 June 1920, the first air mail<br />

service in Australasia began when an Avro aeroplane took<br />

off from Lismore to deliver and pick up mail in Casino and<br />

Tenterfield. The display will look at this ‘first’ for Lismore, as<br />

well as other local pioneering aviation ventures such as those<br />

of Keith Virtue and G.A. Robinson.<br />

This event is to celebrate the family name “Ormsby” which<br />

first arrived on Australian soil with the First Fleet 1788.<br />

Ormsby was also the first Prison Superintendent at Cockatoo<br />

Island, Sydney. Clarence Pita Ormsby JP <strong>NSW</strong> was the first<br />

Ormsby to be naturalized as an Australian citizen on 26th<br />

January 1988. Clarence Pita Ormsby organized an Australian
